What is a weekend arborist?

Weekend arborists are tree care professionals who typically work on weekends, providing services such as pruning, trimming, diagnosing tree health, and removing hazardous trees. They often cater to clients who are only available on weekends or who require urgent tree care outside of regular business hours. Weekend arborists possess the same skills and certifications as full-time arborists, ensuring the safety and health of trees while maintaining property aesthetics. Their flexible schedules make them a valuable resource for homeowners and businesses needing tree services during off-peak times.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a weekend arborist?

To excel as a Weekend Arborist, you need a solid understanding of tree biology, pruning techniques, and safe equipment handling, often backed by relevant certifications like ISA Certified Arborist. Familiarity with chainsaws, climbing gear, wood chippers, and sometimes GIS mapping tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication with clients and team members are valuable soft skills. These competencies are crucial for ensuring safe, efficient tree care and maintaining client trust in a role often performed independently or on a tight schedule.

What are common challenges faced by weekend arborists and how can they be managed?

Weekend arborists often encounter challenges such as managing demanding physical tasks within a limited timeframe, balancing safety with efficiency, and adapting to varying weather conditions. Since work is concentrated on weekends, time management and effective planning are crucial to complete jobs safely and thoroughly. Collaborating closely with clients and sometimes other team members ensures priorities are clear, and regular communication helps manage expectations. Staying up to date on best practices and using the right equipment also helps mitigate risks and improve productivity.

The Weekend Arborist and Part-Time Tree Trimmer roles both involve outdoor tree maintenance, often in similar environments. The main difference lies in certifications and scope: Weekend Arborists often hold certifications like Certified Arborist and may perform more specialized tasks, while Part-Time Tree Trimmers typically do not require formal credentials and focus on basic trimming and cleanup. Both roles are suitable for those seeking flexible, part-time outdoor work in the tree care industry.

Is being a weekend arborist a hard job?

Weekend arborists perform tree care tasks such as pruning, trimming, and removal, often working outdoors with tools like chainsaws and safety equipment. The job can be physically demanding and requires knowledge of safety procedures, but it generally involves standard industry practices and can vary in difficulty based on the complexity of tasks and weather conditions.

What is the average pay of a weekend arborist?

The average pay for a weekend arborist typically ranges from $15 to $25 per hour, depending on experience, certifications, and the region. Part-time or weekend work may also influence overall earnings, with some arborists earning additional benefits or bonuses for specialized skills or equipment use.

What type of weekend arborist makes the most money?

Experienced weekend arborists who specialize in advanced tree climbing, pruning, and removal using industry-standard tools tend to earn higher wages. Certifications such as ISA Arborist Certification and working in regions with high demand for tree care can also increase earning potential. Typically, those with specialized skills and certifications command higher pay in the arboriculture field.

Job description

We’re hiring an Arborist, and we’re willing to pay up to $45/hour for the right person.

Arborist Solutions is a small, family-owned tree care company serving Central Ohio. We’ve built our company around a pretty simple idea: do exceptional tree work, take care of our people, and don’t create a miserable place to work.

We’re looking for an experienced, quality-focused Arborist who knows their stuff and, just as importantly, is an excellent teammate.

This isn’t a position for someone who just wants to show up, cut trees, and go home. We want someone who takes pride in doing things correctly, cares about the trees and properties we’re working on, communicates well, and makes the crew better by being there.

What we offer:

  • Up to $45/hour for the right candidate
  • 4-day workweek
  • 4+ weeks of PTO
  • Company-paid health insurance
  • Flexible unpaid time off
  • High-quality equipment and a company willing to invest in its people
  • Opportunities to work across climbing, pruning, removals, plant health care, preservation, and other areas of arboriculture
  • A small team where your ideas and experience actually matter
  • A company that prioritizes tree preservation whenever it makes sense, rather than treating every tree as something to remove

We’re not necessarily looking for the fastest climber or the person with the longest résumé.

We’re looking for someone who is damn good at tree care, dependable, safe, humble enough to keep learning, and the kind of person other good arborists want beside them every day.

If that sounds like you—or you know someone who would be a great fit—send us a message or apply with Arborist Solutions in Columbus, Ohio.

🌳 Come do great tree work with good people.
