Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Arborist to be based in New York, NY.

This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Documenting all phases of construction in and around city-owned trees.
  • Provide oversight for excavation of sidewalk, installation of utility lines, and installation of new sidewalk around trees in the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, NY.
  • Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical projects with limited scope.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Collects and enters data and applies technical principles and theories.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, clean driving record, personal vehicle, and the ability to navigate to and through Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, NY.
  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dusts, and noise.  Position requires frequent standing/walking, operation of vehicles, work in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; occasionally power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), working alone in isolated/remote areas, and performing keyboard/mouse operations.  Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including safety shoes/boots, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, and high visibility vest.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resource Sciences, Biology, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science
  • Excellent business writing, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills, as well as the ability to multitask and work within deadlines.
  • A current Arborist Certification by the International Society of Arboriculture.
  • Previous internship or professional experience with natural resources, arborist-landscaping, and/or construction oversight.
