Position Overview

Spring River Rehabilitation & Care Center is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and dependable Weekend Activities Assistant to join our team in Roswell, New Mexico.

The Weekend Activities Assistant helps plan, organize, and lead recreational, social, and individual activities designed to promote resident engagement, socialization, independence, and quality of life.

This position is especially important in helping ensure residents continue to have meaningful opportunities for engagement throughout the weekend.

Activities may include games, music, arts and crafts, social gatherings, exercise and movement programs, movies, resident celebrations, one-on-one visits, outdoor activities, and other programs based on resident interests and abilities.

The ideal candidate is outgoing, creative, patient, dependable, and genuinely enjoys spending time with seniors.

Previous healthcare experience is preferred but not required. We welcome candidates with backgrounds in recreation, hospitality, education, childcare, customer service, community programs, or other people-focused roles.

Key ResponsibilitiesResident Activities & Engagement
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and leading weekend resident activities

  • Encourage residents to participate in activities based on their interests, preferences, abilities, and individual needs

  • Lead group activities such as games, crafts, music, movies, trivia, social gatherings, and other recreational programs

  • Provide individual activities and one-on-one visits for residents who may not participate in group programming

  • Help residents remain socially connected and actively engaged within the community

  • Adapt activities when appropriate to support residents with different physical or cognitive abilities

  • Encourage resident choice and participation without creating unnecessary pressure

  • Assist residents in getting to and from scheduled activities as appropriate

  • Help maintain a positive, energetic, and welcoming atmosphere throughout the weekend

Weekend Programming
  • Help ensure meaningful activities and engagement opportunities are available throughout assigned weekend shifts

  • Follow the established activities calendar and scheduled programming

  • Prepare activity spaces, materials, supplies, games, and equipment before programs begin

  • Lead scheduled programs independently when assigned

  • Assist with spontaneous or additional activities based on resident interests

  • Support weekend celebrations, birthdays, holidays, special events, and themed activities

  • Assist with appropriate outdoor or community-based activities when scheduled

  • Clean and organize activity areas and supplies following programs

  • Communicate activity participation, resident feedback, and programming needs to Activities leadership

Resident Relationships & Quality of Life
  • Build positive and professional relationships with residents

  • Learn resident interests, hobbies, preferences, backgrounds, and favorite activities

  • Engage residents in meaningful conversation and companionship

  • Recognize opportunities to provide individualized engagement throughout the day

Resident-Centered Support
  • Treat every resident with compassion, patience, dignity, and respect

  • Respect resident preferences regarding participation in activities

  • Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality

  • Recognize and accommodate different levels of physical and cognitive ability when planning or conducting activities

  • Communicate resident concerns or observed changes to the appropriate nursing or leadership team member

  • Immediately report concerns involving resident safety, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or inappropriate treatment according to facility procedures

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents and families

Activity Preparation & Organization
  • Set up activity rooms and common areas before scheduled programs

  • Gather and organize supplies needed for activities

  • Maintain activity supplies, games, equipment, and materials in an organized manner

  • Assist with monitoring activity inventory and communicate supply needs

  • Decorate common areas for holidays, seasons, resident events, and special occasions as assigned

  • Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming activity spaces

  • Assist with preparing calendars, signs, flyers, or other activity materials when needed

Documentation & Communication
  • Complete assigned activity documentation accurately and timely

  • Record resident participation or other required information according to facility procedures

  • Communicate resident preferences and activity interests to Activities leadership

  • Report concerns or changes observed during resident interactions to the appropriate team member

  • Communicate professionally with residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and leadership

  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information

Safety & Infection Prevention
  • Maintain resident safety during activities and events

  • Follow established infection-prevention and control practices

  • Perform appropriate hand hygiene and use personal protective equipment when required

  • Ensure activity areas and equipment are maintained in a clean and safe condition

  • Identify and report potential hazards or unsafe conditions

  • Follow appropriate resident mobility and fall-prevention procedures

  • Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, or resident concerns

  • Follow established facility emergency procedures

Teamwork & Professionalism
  • Work collaboratively with Activities, Nursing, Dietary, Social Services, Therapy, Housekeeping, and other departments

  • Maintain dependable attendance and arrive prepared for scheduled weekend shifts

  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist with changing resident needs

  • Maintain a positive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude

  • Participate in required training, education, and facility meetings

  • Accept coaching and feedback and demonstrate a willingness to learn

  • Assist coworkers when appropriate to support resident needs

  • Perform additional Activities responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications
  • Previous activities, recreation, senior living, skilled nursing, healthcare, hospitality, education, childcare, customer service, or community-program experience preferred but not required
