Accountant III
The Maine Community College System (MCCS) is looking to fill a full-time Accountant III position. This position works independently and is responsible for advanced accounting in performing diverse and complex accounting functions. The position provides support to the System Office finance operations and college business managers in directing daily financial activities and provides functional direction to accounts payable. This position is responsible for maintaining the monthly general ledger system, reconciliations and charge distributions providing accounting support to the seven community colleges, as well as interacting with other agencies and external parties. The position will assist the Chief Financial Officer with financial reporting, special projects and analyses, as necessary.
The Accountant III position is classified as a range 25 within the MSEA Support Services bargaining unit. Dependent on experience and qualifications, the position expects to pay in the vicinity of $75,000. MCCS offers a full suite of employee benefits including health, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement savings, flexible savings accounts, employee assistance program, tuition waivers, 529 education plan MCCS matching grant and paid holidays, vacation, and sick time.
The required minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in accounting, business or a related field and ten years of relevant experience. Years of experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year for year basis.
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of fiscal operations and FASB/GASB.
  • Ability to work with automated accounting systems.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze financial data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with a diverse

public.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and perform independent assignments.
