General Description
Clinical Instructors responsibilities include the supervision and evaluation of clinical lab and/or patient care experiences as assigned by Director of Clinical Education
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
โ€ข Evaluate cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills of students. โ€ข Direct students to clinical situations, which would provide students with opportunities to meet goals and objectives, increase skills and pass competency evaluations. โ€ข Supervise student's skill practice and clinical patient care. โ€ข Ensure accurate and safe skill performance by students; correct and remediate as appropriate. โ€ข Maintain a safe practice environment. โ€ข Complete assigned competency rating forms and review with students. โ€ข Utilize evidence-based principles of current respiratory practice for clinical experience. โ€ข Adhere to professional standards and legal guidelines of practice. โ€ข Consult with the Director of Clinical Education regarding observed student behavior, attitude, and skills that are unacceptable such as: o Content or skill weakness in a given area. o Behavior or attitude problems which, in the opinion of the clinical instructor, is counter-productive to Respiratory Care and patients o Lack of technical competence. โ€ข Be a role model demonstrating responsible and professional Respiratory Therapist behavior. โ€ข Attends scheduled department staff meetings. โ€ข Participate in on-going training as assigned by Director of Clinical Education to ensure inter-rater reliability โ€ข Document student progress and competency using the Trajecsysยฎ Clinical Management Tracking software; maintain privacy of all passwords and student informationโ€ข Participate in semester end clinical and laboratory proficiency testing. Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
An Associate in Science degree or Respiratory Care is required or an Associate's degree with the general education requirements needed to become a Respiratory Therapist. Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and current active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license as required by the state of New Jersey is required. Member of AARC is a plus.
Experience
โ€ข Minimum of three years clinical respiratory experience required. โ€ข Teaching experience is preferred
Competencies and Skills Required
โ€ข Competent in personal computer applications; word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email. โ€ข AHA Certified in BLS for Healthcare Professionals โ€ข Competence in clinical skills in areas of teaching โ€ข Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills โ€ข Ability to delegate and manage small groups โ€ข Strong critical thinking skills โ€ข Clinical and/or instructional experience in the specific respiratory field (E.g. Pediatrics)
Physical Demands and Work Environment
โ€ข This position's duties are normally performed in a medical facility, acute care hospital or other healthcare setting based on the activity/competency scheduled. โ€ข Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. โ€ข Ability to stand and/ or walk for an extended period in a clinical patient care setting. Some travel required.

Terms of Employment
Part-time. Hours not to exceed 25 per week. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Travel to the campus and clinical affiliates, and hours outside of the traditional weekday work schedule may be required, including evenings and weekends. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies. Clinical Instructor must be an employee of one of our affiliate healthcare systems.
