Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill 30 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Swim Instructor for the KidSpirit Youth Organization at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Youth Program Instructor is responsible for delivering highquality instruction to youth while fostering a safe, supportive, and growthoriented environment. The position requires strong communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Responsibilities include lesson planning, safety response, equipment management, program promotion, and effective collaboration with staff, families, and supervisors. WSI certification preferred or ability to participate in WSI training. Swim Lesson Experience / Training Preferred or High Level of Swim Experience

Position Duties:

  • Create and maintain an instructional environment that prioritizes skill mastery, emotional safety, and positive youth development.

  • Plan, prepare, and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities that support participant growth and engagement.

  • Use observation, critical thinking, and feedback strategies to evaluate participants and support staff performance.

  • Monitor participant safety always and administer first aid when necessary.

  • Initiate emergency action procedures appropriately and calmly.

  • Attend required orientation sessions, program meetings, and inservice training.

  • Check out, request, and properly use equipment and supplies for activities.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services(OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current, valid First Aid certification by the start of programming.

  • Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) certification by start of programming.

  • Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety certification by start of programming.

  • Fundamentals of Learning.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Working Conditions/Schedule: On campus pools, Langton and Women Building.
Afternoons Monday thru Friday, weekdays may vary like Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Weekends, Saturday and Sunday.
Can possibly accommodate working one day on the weekend, Saturday or Sunday.
KidSpirit swim lessons run both Saturday and Sunday.Salary Range:Anticipated Start Date:2026-08-31Anticipated End Date:
