What is a webops engineer?

Webops Engineers, short for Web Operations Engineers, are IT professionals who manage, maintain, and optimize the infrastructure that supports web applications. They ensure that websites and online services are reliable, scalable, and secure by monitoring servers, automating deployments, and troubleshooting issues. Webops Engineers often work closely with development and operations teams to streamline workflows and improve system performance. Their responsibilities can also include configuring cloud services, managing databases, and implementing best practices for continuous integration and delivery.

What is the difference between Webops Engineer vs DevOps Engineer?

AspectWebops EngineerDevOps Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires IT, networking, or cloud certificationsOften holds certifications in cloud platforms, automation, or CI/CD tools
Work EnvironmentFocuses on website deployment, performance, and uptimeWorks on software development pipelines, automation, and infrastructure
Industry UsageCommon in web hosting, e-commerce, and online servicesPrevalent in software development, tech companies, and startups

Webops Engineers primarily manage website infrastructure, deployment, and performance, ensuring online services run smoothly. DevOps Engineers focus on automating development processes, integrating software development and IT operations. While both roles involve infrastructure and automation, Webops is more website-centric, whereas DevOps covers broader software development lifecycle automation.

What does a webops engineer do?

Webops Engineers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between development and IT operations teams. They work closely with developers to automate deployment pipelines, monitor site performance, and quickly address issues that arise during releases. Collaboration often involves coordinating code rollouts, setting up continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) systems, and ensuring that infrastructure changes align with both security and scalability requirements. By facilitating open communication and using tools like containerization and orchestration platforms, Webops Engineers help ensure that website updates and maintenance occur seamlessly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a webops engineer?

To thrive as a Webops Engineer, you need a solid understanding of web infrastructure, automation, and cloud platforms, typically backed by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is essential, along with knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and scripting languages. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set top performers apart. These abilities ensure reliable, scalable, and efficient web operations that support seamless user experiences and rapid deployment cycles.

Every day, thousands of developers and marketers create, iterate, and scale WordPress and Drupal sites to reach billions of people globally. Pantheon's multitenant, container-based platform enables organizations to manage all of their websites from a single dashboard. Organizations including Clorox and the United Nations drive results through accelerated development and real-time publishing using Pantheon's collaborative workflows.

The Role

Pantheon is scaling thoughtfully, and we want you to be a key player in our business transformation. As a Deal Desk Analyst, you will sit at the intersection of Sales, Finance, Legal, and Accounting, acting as a trusted advisor to ensure scalable growth for the entire business. You are a strategic business thinker with excellent communication and collaboration skills, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This position reports to our Senior Deal Desk Manager.

In this role, you will manage first-line approvals for the deal approval process, including complex deal structuring and accelerating deal closures. What You'll Do

  • Review Order Forms for accuracy, pricing, and compliance; perform to a specified set of metrics and service levels.
  • Manage the queue and approval process for sales orders, escalating as required.
  • Work closely with Sales Management, Finance, Legal, and Support teams.
  • Drive best practices to increase Deal Desk and sales efficiency and effectiveness across the organization, including identifying gaps or process issues.
  • Analyze and report on transaction trends, efficiency metrics, and areas for improving efficiency.
  • Deliver relevant training to new and existing salespeople on Deal Desk processes, order procedures, and overall QTC best practices.
  • Ensure adherence to and compliance with policies and procedures around revenue recognition and operational guidelines.
What you Bring to the Table
  • 3+ years of sales, finance or operations experience
  • Experience executing and managing complex software deals through the full order lifecycle, from initial structuring through approvals, negotiation and close
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize at times of high volume
  • Deep understanding of quote-to-cash processes and contract lifecycle
  • Strong written and verbal communicator with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote-first environment
  • Easy to work with - with a positive, collaborative attitude - you take the work seriously but not yourself!
  • Proficiency with Salesforce, CLM tool(s), CPQ tool(s)
What We Offer

We have all the usual perks and benefits but what we can really offer you is a fantastic work environment powered by an amazing team.

  • Industry competitive compensation and equity plan
  • Flexible time off, sick days, and 13 paid holidays
  • Comprehensive medical insurance including Health, Dental and Vision
  • Paid parental leave (plus fertility, adoption and other family planning benefits)
  • In-office workspace (San Francisco)
  • Monthly allowance for wellness, reading and access to LinkedIn Learning for continued development
  • Events and activities both team-based and company wide that inspire, educate and cultivate
