What is a webops engineer?

Webops Engineers, short for Web Operations Engineers, are IT professionals who manage, maintain, and optimize the infrastructure that supports web applications. They ensure that websites and online services are reliable, scalable, and secure by monitoring servers, automating deployments, and troubleshooting issues. Webops Engineers often work closely with development and operations teams to streamline workflows and improve system performance. Their responsibilities can also include configuring cloud services, managing databases, and implementing best practices for continuous integration and delivery.

What does a webops engineer do?

Webops Engineers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between development and IT operations teams. They work closely with developers to automate deployment pipelines, monitor site performance, and quickly address issues that arise during releases. Collaboration often involves coordinating code rollouts, setting up continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) systems, and ensuring that infrastructure changes align with both security and scalability requirements. By facilitating open communication and using tools like containerization and orchestration platforms, Webops Engineers help ensure that website updates and maintenance occur seamlessly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a webops engineer?

To thrive as a Webops Engineer, you need a solid understanding of web infrastructure, automation, and cloud platforms, typically backed by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is essential, along with knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and scripting languages. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set top performers apart. These abilities ensure reliable, scalable, and efficient web operations that support seamless user experiences and rapid deployment cycles.

Job description

About Pantheon
Pantheon's WebOps Platform powers more than 300,000 websites for organizations including Google, Princeton, Salesloft, and Doctors Without Borders. Our platform helps developers and marketers build, manage, and scale WordPress and Drupal websites faster.
The Role
Our BDRs create the first meaningful connection between Pantheon and future customers. You'll research priority accounts, find the right people, understand their business challenges,
and create qualified pipeline for our Account Executive team.
This is not a generic, high-volume outreach role. It's a research-led, account-based role for someone who can turn insight into relevant conversations. You'll use phone, email, social selling, referrals, and events to reach decision-makers and build relationships across strategic accounts.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Own a portfolio of target accounts and prioritize where to focus.
  • Research companies, technologies, organizational changes, business priorities, and buying signals.
  • Map stakeholders and multi-thread conversations across strategic accounts.
  • Write and deliver concise, personalized outreach across multiple channels.
  • Cold call prospects and lead initial qualification and discovery conversations.
  • Understand priorities, pain points, urgency, stakeholders, and fit.
  • Partner with Account Executives on account plans, qualification, handoffs, and next steps.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on campaigns, messaging, content, and account insights.
  • Keep Salesforce and account intelligence accurate and actionable.
  • Test, learn, and improve your approach based on conversion and pipeline data.
How AI Fits into the Work
AI is part of our modern BDR workflow. You'll use approved tools to:
  • Summarize account research and surface relevant signals.
  • Prioritize accounts and contacts.
  • Create first-pass account briefs, messaging angles, and call preparation.
  • Analyze engagement, conversion, and pipeline progression.
  • Improve team playbooks and repeatable workflows.

AI supports your judgment-it does not replace it. You'll verify facts, edit every message, protect confidential information, follow Pantheon policies, and never send unreviewed AI-generated outreach.
How We Measure Success
Activity matters, but quality matters more. We look at:
  • Qualified pipeline sourced and accepted by Sales.
  • Conversion from outreach to meaningful conversations and opportunities.
  • Account engagement and multi-threading.
  • Opportunity quality and progression after handoff.
  • Research quality, messaging relevance, CRM hygiene, and follow-through.
  • Consistent achievement of agreed goals.
What You Bring to the Table
  • 12+ months of experience in sales development, business development, outbound prospecting, or a related sales role.
  • A track record of holding your role, managing goals, and improving performance.
  • Strong account research, writing, phone, and social-selling skills.
  • Curiosity about technology and how digital teams work.
  • An analytical, coachable, resourceful approach.
  • Strong organization across multiple accounts and stakeholders.
  • Comfort using AI and sales technology thoughtfully and responsibly.
  • A collaborative mindset and genuine interest in building a long-term GTM career.
You'll Stand Out If You Have
  • SaaS, WebOps, digital experience, MarTech, cloud, or enterprise sales experience.
  • Experience with Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Gong, Nooks, or similar tools.
  • Experience with ABM, strategic prospecting, multi-threading, or enterprise sales.
  • Experience using AI to improve research, writing, analysis, or workflow design.
Growth at Pantheon
We build durable skills, not just activity metrics. You'll receive coaching, training, sales technology, and feedback on your research, messaging, conversations, and pipeline outcomes. Strong performance can create opportunities in Senior BDR, Account Executive, Account-Based Marketing, Revenue Operations, and other GTM roles. Progression is based on demonstrated capability, sustained performance, and business needs.
What We Offer
We have all the usual perks and benefits but what we can really offer you is a fantastic work environment powered by an amazing team.
  • Industry-competitive compensation and equity.
  • Flexible time off, sick days, and 13 paid holidays.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Paid parental leave and family-planning benefits.
  • In-office workspace where available.
  • Wellness and reading allowance, plus LinkedIn Learning.
  • Team and company-wide events
Location and Compensation
The base salary for this position is:
  • US- SF/NY: $62,300 - $77,900 base (OTE $89,000 - $111,286)
  • US- all other states: $56,000 - $70,000 base (OTE $80,000 - $100,000)
  • CAN- CAD$51,400 - CAD$64,300 base (OTE CAD$73,429 - CAD$91,857)

Final compensation will be determined based on factors including role scope, relevant experience, and geographic location.
