What are Web Raters?

Web Raters are professionals who evaluate and assess the quality and relevance of web content, search engine results, advertisements, or social media feeds. They follow specific guidelines to determine how well online information meets user needs and search intent. Web Raters help improve algorithms used by search engines and tech companies to deliver better results to users. This role often requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and familiarity with internet culture.

What are some common challenges Web Raters face when evaluating online content, and how can they address them?

Web Raters often encounter content that is ambiguous or lacks clear context, making it challenging to apply evaluation guidelines consistently. To overcome this, it's important to carefully review all provided instructions, use judgment while adhering to established criteria, and seek clarification from supervisors or team forums when in doubt. Regularly updating oneself with changes in guidelines and participating in team discussions can also help ensure accurate and consistent ratings. Being detail-oriented and open to feedback will further enhance performance in this role.

Both roles require similar skills and are often remote, but their specific tasks and employer focus differ.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Web Rater, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Rater, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and proficiency in internet research, typically with at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with web browsers, search engines, and proprietary rating platforms is often required, alongside passing a qualification exam provided by employers. Excellent time management, communication, and self-motivation are valuable soft skills for working independently and meeting productivity targets. These skills ensure that web raters can accurately evaluate search engine results and provide high-quality feedback to improve online content relevance.

Job description

The Opportunity
At Potomac, we're not for everyone-and that's by design. We attract people who think critically, communicate clearly, and execute with urgency. People who care deeply about their work and don't need handholding to make things happen.
We're a boutique tactical asset manager with a differentiated product that serves the independent broker-dealer and RIA channel
Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, we combine institutional-grade investment expertise with a quantitative process that is Built to Conquer Riskยฎ.
As we continue our aggressive growth trajectory, we are seeking a Web Developer who can transform our digital presence into a high-performing growth engine that drives engagement, improves discoverability, and delivers exceptional user experiences.
This position is based in our headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland and is an in-office role.
Summary
The Web Developer is responsible for building, optimizing, and enhancing Potomac's digital experiences with a focus on website performance, user experience, search visibility, and conversion optimization. Leveraging Framer as a primary development platform, this role will create fast, responsive, and highly engaging web experiences that support business growth and elevate our brand.
This position blends front-end development, technical SEO, Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), and user experience optimization. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable implementing advanced interactions and animations, improving site architecture, and analyzing performance data to continuously enhance engagement and conversion rates.
This is not a traditional web design role. We are looking for a technically minded developer who understands how websites drive business outcomes and can build experiences that are optimized for both users and modern search ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Website Development & Optimization
  • Build, maintain, and optimize web experiences using Framer and modern front-end development practices.
  • Create responsive, mobile-first experiences that perform seamlessly across devices and browsers.
  • Implement interactive components, animations, and user flows that improve engagement and usability.
  • Ensure websites meet modern accessibility standards and performance benchmarks.

User Experience & Conversion Optimization
  • Improve site navigation, content structure, and user journeys to increase engagement and conversions.
  • Design and implement conversion-focused landing pages and campaign experiences.
  • Analyze user behavior using heatmaps, session recordings, and analytics platforms to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Conduct A/B testing and iterative improvements to maximize site performance.

SEO & Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)
  • Own technical SEO initiatives across all web properties.
  • Implement structured data, schema markup, metadata, and indexing best practices.
  • Optimize website architecture and content structure for search engines and AI-powered discovery platforms.
  • Partner with content and marketing teams to maximize organic visibility and search performance.
  • Monitor and improve site health, crawlability, page speed, and search rankings.

  • Track and report on key website metrics including traffic, engagement, conversions, Core Web Vitals, and search performance.
  • Identify technical issues affecting site performance and proactively implement solutions.
  • Utilize behavioral data and analytics to guide ongoing enhancements and development priorities.
  • Stay current on emerging web technologies, SEO trends, AI search developments, and digital experience best practices.
Qualifications
Required
  • 3-5 years of experience in web development, front-end development, or digital experience optimization.
  • Hands-on experience building websites and landing pages using Framer.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end development principles.
  • Experience implementing technical SEO best practices and website performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of schema markup, structured data, search indexing, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Experience with website analytics platforms such as Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards, and UX best practices.
  • Experience conducting website testing and optimization initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Digital Media, Marketing Technology, or a related field.

Preferred
  • Experience with Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and AI search visibility strategies.
  • Experience working with financial services, fintech, asset management, or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with Google Tag Manager and conversion tracking implementation.
  • Experience with CMS platforms, API integrations, and marketing technology ecosystems.
  • Understanding of Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) methodologies and testing frameworks.
  • Portfolio demonstrating high-performing websites, landing pages, or digital experiences.

Potomac is not your typical asset manager. We cut through the industry BS with brutal transparency and an obsession with execution. If you're looking for a slow pace and low volume, this isn't for you.
