Job Description

RRD is looking for an energetic, and highly motivated team member to join our team of Press Operators at our Elk Grove Village facility.

Job Title:ย  Press Operator 3ย 

  • Operate web printing press to print quality production, maintain quality of product, lead and direct press crew, maintain press, and work on other operation duties as directed by the supervisors

  • Set up, adjust,ย  operate, and maintainย a Litho Press, In-line double web press, Harris M10, and a mini web 6 colorย web printing pressย or , multi-color offset press to print single-color, two-color, and/or multi-color work which includes large solids, screen tints, line and halftones with critical color values and registration requirements ranging from hairline to critical.

  • Review job specifications to determine the press setup according to the imposition of the run (sheet wise or work and turn).

  • Perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examine plates/cylinders for imperfections and checks for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register etc

  • Makes necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work.

  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required.

  • Performs periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer.

  • Act as a leader in providing and promoting a safe andย injury-free work environment.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the press and press crew.

  • Responsible for over all quality of the printed product including color reproduction, product specifications, imaging quality and postal specifications.

  • Determines when product is suitable for saving.

  • Responsible for producing a sample-quality product.

  • Monitors other crew member's progress while performing their responsibilities.

  • Provides accurate documentation of time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds.

  • Communicates information effectively with other crews and departments, scheduling, prepress, maintenance.ย 

  • Coordinates make-ready process by reviewing job information, establishing make-ready plan, and assigning responsibilities to crew members.

  • Responsible for maintaining a Preventive Maintenance Program for the press, and using the "Request For Action" system to notify the maintenance department of issues with the equipment.

  • Share your expertise and help train other employees as assigned

  • Other responsibilities as required

Hourly Rate Disclosure Statement:ย  ย The pay range for this role at the noted location is $30.90 to $44.60 per hour. The actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include, overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay. Qualifications
  • Previous experience working as a Press Operator 2 or 3 in Direct Mail or similar industry
  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of techniques, procedures, materials, specifications, equipment, and safety requirements to set up, adjust, operate, and maintain equipment to produce single-, two-, and/or multi-color work to critical tolerances.
  • Skill in aย wide variety of complex manipulations and mechanical procedures to perform a variety of tasks to set up, make major adjustments, and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment to produce single-, two-, and/or multi-color work.ย 
  • Skill to read and understand job specifications and knowledge of press capabilities to determine the most appropriate press usage, press settings, and materials needed to run the job successfully.
  • Skill in use of a micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly.
  • Strong Communication skills.ย 
  • Troubleshooting/Problem-Solving Skills, Mechanical Aptitudeย Management skills, coordinating the activities of other crew members.ย 
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 7-10 years of web press-printing experience.
  • Knowledge of in-line finishing, die cutting, inserters, imagers, color, and register - required

Shiftsย  7p - 7a / 3 day 4 off rotating shift at 8 weeks plus $3.00 shift differential

Plus 7am to 7pm/3 day 4 off rotating shift at 8 weeks.

Theย salary range for this role at the noted RRD location is $30.90 - $45.00/ hour. Starting pay decisions are determined based on multiple factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, skills, experience, certifications, proficiency, performance, shift, location, and other business needs.ย Typically, roles follow step progressions to a target rate or set increments over time. Depending on the role, in addition to the hourly rate of pay, the total compensation package may also include [a sign-on bonus of $2,000] overtime, shift differential, call-in, and/or stand-by pay. RRD's benefit offerings include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, life insurance and other voluntary supplemental insurance coverages, plus parental leave, adoption assistance, tuition assistance and employer/partner discounts.
