Duties:
  • Responsible for establishing, documenting, and maintaining security standards across all Island Hospital systems and networks.
  • Responsible for security hardware and software configuration, including but not limited to Firewalls, IDS/IPS, Web & Mail Filtering, Endpoint Security products.
  • Responsible for identifying, defining, documenting and communicating security risks and vulnerabilities to leadership.
  • Responsible for Incident Response planning, implementation, and execution
  • Coordinates efforts with systems, network, operations, and technical support staff to establish and modify network configurations to ensure quality, integrity, and performance.
  • Monitors network performance and resolves problem areas as needed.
  • Owns, tracks, and resolves security related issues and requests.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures for network implementation, usage, and disaster recovery in cooperation with Network and Systems Engineers.
  • Provide backup support for the Systems Engineer and/or Network Engineer as required.

Skills/Qualifications:
  • Professional experience and detailed technical knowledge in multiple areas of security engineering, system and network security, authentication and security protocols.
  • Experience in building and maintaining security systems.
  • Hands on experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
  • Working knowledge of risk and security frameworks, standards, and best practices (e.g. NIST, ISO, SANS Critical Security Controls).
  • Experience with HIPAA and PCI.
  • Knowledge of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) configuration and management.
  • Experience managing VoIP phone systems • Proven project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail and follow-through attitude.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to flourish in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines as necessary.
  • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees.
  • Staff must recognize age differences and respond appropriately to their needs.

Requirements:
  • Minimum two years Security Engineer experience and two years systems or network administration required. Healthcare experience desirable.
  • Minimum one-year supervising technical staff preferred.
  • Minimum two-year technical degree preferred. CISSP certification preferred. Relevant work experience or certifications may be substituted for degree requirement.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes and communicable diseases as related to a health care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, and have hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone. The employee is often required to sit for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arm. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus sufficient to operate computer systems.
