What is a web manager?

A web manager is responsible for maintaining, designing, and developing a business website, based on the field or specifications set by a client. Your duties include monitoring, assessing, and reporting on online content performance, ensuring a website functions and software is up-to-date, and handling a range of online marketing projects from search engine optimization to social media practices. You may also develop content and monitor web traffic. Since you oversee staff, communication skills are vital. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of proven on-the-job experience for this career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Manager, you need expertise in website management, content strategy, SEO, and analytics, often supported by a degree in web design, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Google Analytics, and basic HTML/CSS is typically required. Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills set outstanding Web Managers apart. These abilities are crucial for ensuring optimal website performance, user experience, and alignment with business objectives.

What are the main challenges a web manager faces when coordinating with cross-functional teams?

Job description

Shape a brighter financial future with us. Together with our members, we’re changing the way people think about and interact with personal finance. We’re a next-generation financial services company and national bank using innovative, mobile-first technology to help our millions of members reach their goals. The industry is going through an unprecedented transformation, and we’re at the forefront. We’re proud to come to work every day knowing that what we do has a direct impact on people’s lives, with our core values guiding us every step of the way. Join us to invest in yourself, your career, and the financial world.

The Role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join the SoFi Money team. You’ll work in a highly collaborative environment, engaging closely with cross-functional Product, Design, and Engineering teams. You’ll also be involved in the entire product lifecycle—from ideation through deployment, with continuous improvement at every stage.

In this role, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our banking products and services. We are focused on evolving our Investment system and providing an exceptional end-to-end user experience. This position involves building and maturing member-facing investment services to support new and existing products. Specifically, you will be continuing to cultivate a strong front-end culture to help deliver a top-of-the-line investing experience for our members, all while enabling our teams to grow, learn, and reach their own aspirations.

At SoFi, you’ll become part of a new kind of finance company whose ambition is to help our members achieve financial independence and reach their goals. We aim to be at the center of our members’ financial lives and to help every member get their money right. We created student loan refinancing, addressing the biggest financial challenge of a new generation through a modern approach to lending and personal finance. Next, we expanded our products and services across loans, wealth management, and insurance. SoFi has achieved significant growth, with ambitious plans ahead, but to continue this growth we need great talent. And that starts with you.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the development and testing of our systems and services
  • Participate in shaping the technical architecture of the web platforms
  • Deliver reusable web SDKs, libraries and frameworks to scale web applications and drive consistency
  • Design and maintain systems that improve developer experience across CI/CD, testing, and deployment pipelines.
  • Define standards and best practices for performance, accessibility, and design system adoption.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to drive adoption and alignment of core platform capabilities.
  • Tackle complex technical and organizational challenges that span teams and products.
  • Mentor engineers, support the technical culture, and help grow the team
  • Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies
  • Communicate with project leads, product managers and other software developers
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s Degree, in a technical field
  • 5+ years programming experience, ideally on a modern web stack
  • Experience working on or leading a web platform team at a large company
  • 1+ years management experience
  • Maintain code quality, performance, and sound architectural principles
  • Experience working in a collaborative coding environment, refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others and get stuff done
  • Strong sense of responsibility; driving a project from inception to completion
  • Affinity for solving problems and shipping impactful features, not polishing perfect code or architecture
  • Experience working in a collaborative coding environment (and git specifically), refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
Nice to Have
  • React JS / GraphQL experience
  • Good understanding of SOLID principles
  • Microfrontends and federated web app architecture
  • Web monorepo experience
  • Frontend web testing frameworks
  • Web Accessibility WCAG 2.0
  • Web Performance
