What is a web manager?

A web manager is responsible for maintaining, designing, and developing a business website, based on the field or specifications set by a client. Your duties include monitoring, assessing, and reporting on online content performance, ensuring a website functions and software is up-to-date, and handling a range of online marketing projects from search engine optimization to social media practices. You may also develop content and monitor web traffic. Since you oversee staff, communication skills are vital. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of proven on-the-job experience for this career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Manager, you need expertise in website management, content strategy, SEO, and analytics, often supported by a degree in web design, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Google Analytics, and basic HTML/CSS is typically required. Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills set outstanding Web Managers apart. These abilities are crucial for ensuring optimal website performance, user experience, and alignment with business objectives.

What are the main challenges a web manager faces when coordinating with cross-functional teams?

Web Managers often collaborate with marketing, IT, design, and content teams to ensure the website aligns with business goals and user needs. One common challenge is balancing differing priorities and timelines from each department, which requires strong communication and project management skills. Additionally, translating technical requirements for non-technical stakeholders and ensuring consistent branding across all web assets can be demanding. Successful Web Managers are proactive in setting clear expectations, facilitating regular meetings, and fostering an environment of open feedback.

Job description

Please Note: To conform with the United States Government Space Technology Export Regulations, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., conditional resident, asylee or refugee (protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.

The Senior Web Designer owns design, development, and maintenance of CesiumAstro's corporate website and campaign landing pages using Webflow, serving as the go-to resource for complex builds and technical issues. This role translates Figma designs into production-ready Webflow pages, establishes and maintains site architecture, and mentors junior web team members. The Web Designer III operates with general supervision, exercising independent judgment on more complex technical, design, and process decisions.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own end-to-end development of website pages, campaign landing pages, and components in Webflow, from Figma design translation through launch.
  • Design and build responsive, cross-browser-compatible, on-brand Webflow pages for complex or high-visibility projects.
  • Build and maintain content using Webflow CMS, Collections, and Components, establishing scalable structures for reuse across the site.
  • Write and maintain custom code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to extend Webflow functionality as needed.
  • Conduct competitive and best-practice research to inform new page layouts, interactions, and design patterns.
  • Optimize page load speed, SEO structure, and accessibility as part of the design and build process.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues, troubleshooting, and site performance concerns.
  • Own technical QA processes, ensuring responsive behavior, links, and interactions are validated before launch.
  • Monitor site performance and partner with IT on optimization and issue resolution.
  • Establish and maintain file organization, naming conventions, and CMS structures.
  • Partner with marketing, design, and content teams to scope and deliver page updates and campaign requirements.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior web team members on Webflow best practices and technical execution.
  • Support campaign launches end-to-end and lead ongoing site maintenance planning.
  • Partner with brand and design leadership to ensure visual consistency across new pages and campaign assets.
  • Act as a liaison between marketing and IT/engineering on website infrastructure, integrations, and technical dependencies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Web Development, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of professional experience in web design and/or Webflow development.
  • Advanced proficiency in web design principles and hands-on Webflow development, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, mobile-first development, and cross-browser compatibility best practices.
  • Working knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO), WCAG accessibility standards, and website performance optimization.
  • Experience developing and maintaining consistent brand standards and design systems across websites.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to make independent decisions related to layout, branding, and user experience.
  • Proficiency with Webflow (Designer, CMS, and Editor), Figma, and front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in a confidential, compliance-focused, or government contractor environment preferred.
