What is a web hosting support?

A Web Hosting Support job involves assisting customers with technical issues related to their website hosting services. This includes troubleshooting server problems, email configuration, domain settings, and website performance issues. Support representatives help clients via chat, email, or phone, ensuring their websites remain functional and secure. They may also provide guidance on hosting plans, backups, and security measures. Strong problem-solving skills and knowledge of hosting technologies are essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in web hosting support, and why are they important?

Excelling in Web Hosting Support requires a solid understanding of web hosting environments, troubleshooting, basic networking, and familiarity with server technologies, often supported by relevant IT certifications. Knowledge of control panels (like cPanel or Plesk), ticketing systems, DNS management tools, and the ability to work with Linux or Windows servers is highly valuable. Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills enable effective support for clients and collaboration within technical teams. These abilities are crucial for resolving client issues efficiently, maintaining high customer satisfaction, and ensuring reliable website operations.

What are some common challenges faced in a web hosting support role, and how can I prepare for them?

Web Hosting Support professionals frequently encounter challenges such as diagnosing complex website outages, resolving email delivery issues, and assisting customers with varying levels of technical expertise. To prepare, it's helpful to build a strong knowledge base in web technologies, practice troubleshooting in test environments, and develop excellent communication skills for translating technical concepts. Collaboration with other support team members and occasionally escalating advanced issues to system administrators is common. Embracing continuous learning and remaining patient under pressure will help you excel in resolving customer issues and adapting to new hosting technologies.

Web and Digital Project Manager

PINT, Inc

San Diego, CA • On-site

$70K - $85K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision

Job description

Description:

Project Management at PINT means several things, but most of all it means you love the web. You’ll work hand-in-hand with PINT’s professionals to deliver web and digital solutions and education to our customers, while expanding your knowledge alongside career internet veterans. You’ll work with in-house developers, engineers, researchers, and designers, coordinating their efforts towards project success.

This role requires direct responsibility for project planning, scope delimiting, resource management, and project delivery.

You have the support of the longest-standing web agency in San Diego and decades of experience and knowledge on which to draw, but ultimately you are the one who gets the job done.

Requirements:
  • 4+ years of experience in a web dev, creative, or marketing agency
    • At least 2 years of autonomous project management experience (no day-to-day oversight)
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, equivalent experience will be considered
  • Client stakeholder management required (C-level, Director, VP)
  • Solid project management fundamentals:
    • SDLC waterfall and agile, without dogmatism
    • Team and resource management skills
    • Process oriented
    • PMP is nice to have
  • Other technologies or methodologies of which you may show a strong, working knowledge:
    • Widely-used CMS familiarity
    • Development tools & workflows (IDEs, Version Control, Content Management)
    • Design prototyping and production tools (Figma, CC, etc)
    • Common cloud services and managed hosting environments
    • Familiarity with digital marketing and/or design is highly desirable
    • Hopefully a little HTML, CSS, JS, or PHP doesn’t scare you!

If you’re interested in the web you will have encountered some of these and more we haven’t listed. We’re more intrigued by your conceptual background than the details, but we trust you to have the drive and intellectual curiosity to rapidly pick up what you don’t already know.

This position offers a competitive benefits package including fully-paid medical, dental, & vision (including dependents) and a good work/life balance. PINT values the creative collisions and collaborative space of the physical environment (we hope you do, too), so we operate from our home base in Pacific Beach with a flexible remote work policy.
