Description/Job Summary

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Currently, HGL is seeking a Communications and Administrative Intern I in our Overland Park, KS office. The internship will run between August 2026 and November 2026. This is a part-time, hourly, in-office position with no need for overnight travel.

The person hired for this role will assist with the following:

Administrative Support Tasks

  • Support general office tasks, such as answering the phone, tracking office supplies, processing daily mail and packages.
  • Assist with physical and digital filing systems.
  • Maintain clean/tidy/orderly office and field storage areas.
  • Utilize approved digital and AI-assisted tools, where appropriate, to support technical documentation, data analysis, and workflow efficiency.


Marketing and Communications Tasks

  • Support the Marketing and Communications Team in evaluating marketing strategy by following objectives, organizing promotional presentations, and updating calendars.
  • Support HGL attendance for conferences;
  • Organize marketing materials and purchase promotional items;
  • Working on tight deadlines with Communications Team to support social media editing, planning, and posting;
  • Contributing to writing and editing accurate social media content that is grammatically correct and adheres to our HGL style guide and Communications policy;
  • Keeping up to date with pertinent editing and social media creation and monitoring tools; and performing other support duties.



Minimum Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Actively working toward or seeking a degree in Communications or Marketing. The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:


  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and other MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team- and results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and be detail oriented.
  • Effective communication, teamwork and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technologies and digital tools to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.


Desired Qualifications

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required


Possessing marketing skills, knowledge of the environmental/scientific industry, and ability to interface with clients and management are highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of traditional and digital marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing;
  • Strong academic background with focus on organization, administrative tasks, and communication principles.
  • Experience editing and using social media creation and monitoring tools, including Canva, Adobe Suite, etc.
  • Web design and familiarity with SquareSpace a plus.
  • Experience using generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to improve technical writing, data analysis, research, visualization, or task delivery efficiency.

Details

Work Schedule: This internship can support 15 hours per week, which shall fall within a 5-day work week with core hours between 8:00 am through 5:00 pm. The duration is expected to be August 2026 through November 2026.

Office Type: This is an hourly, in-office position.

Travel: None, though there is the potential that the candidate will need to complete tasks outside the office within a 5-mile radius.

A favorable pre-hire drug test is required. A favorable driving record is required.
