Job description

Tierra Del Sol Foundation is seeking a dedicated and motivated Project Search Core Direct Support Professional to support interns enrolled in the Project Search Program. This role focuses on providing career development education, employment training within a medical setting, and ongoing skill-building support to individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Direct Support Professional will serve as an educator, mentor, advocate, and liaison between interns, their families, regional center counselors, and Kaiser Permanente personnel. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, professional, and passionate about helping individuals succeed in competitive employment settings.

Job Responsibilities Intern Training & Professional Development

  • Design and present monthly PowerPoint presentations and lesson plans focused on: job readiness, workplace safety, professionalism, communication skills, employment success strategies
  • Monitor and support interns to ensure expectations for grooming, professionalism, and workplace behavior are met.
  • Provide individualized coaching and support throughout internship placements.

Hospital Networking & Internship Development

  • Build relationships with hospital departments to identify opportunities for new internship placements.
  • Conduct outreach to departments, families, and stakeholders to support intern success.
  • Develop internship tasks tailored to interns’ skills and abilities.
  • Create detailed step-by-step task analyses for internship assignments.

Project Search Events & Portfolio Development

  • Design flyers, invitations, and communications for Project Search events.
  • Coordinate two annual social events to celebrate intern accomplishments and build relationships.
  • Support the development and maintenance of digital portfolios for interns with communication barriers.

Graduate Placement & Job Retention Support

  • Provide on-site support to interns transitioning into employment within Kaiser Permanente.
  • Assess work environments and develop tools or strategies to promote long-term success and independence.
  • Update floaters and covering staff with schedules, task analyses, and support strategies.
  • Utilize creative problem-solving to adapt tasks to interns’ strengths and support needs.

Schedule

  • 37 hours per week
  • Typical schedule: Monday - Friday between 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Some weekend availability may be required.
  • 30-minute unpaid lunch when not actively supporting clients (working lunch agreement may apply)

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience leading classes, workshops, or educational training.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and modifying curriculum based on learner needs.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is required
  • Previous management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with: Google Docs, Google Slides, Microsoft Excel, Canva and Digital content creation tools
  • Reliable transportation required for travel between multiple job sites.
