Job description

Join the Maritime Administration (MARAD) as our senior Web Designer and lead the strategy, design, and modernization of enterprise web and digital products. You'll collaborate with agency leadership to create secure, accessible, and user-centered digital experiences that improve public engagement, support mission delivery, and shape the future of MARAD's online presence.
 

Qualifications:

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

To qualify for the Grade 13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include:

  • Experience developing, maintaining, or enhancing websites or digital products that support organizational or customer needs.
  • Experience applying user experience (UX) information architecture, usability, or web design principles to improve digital products and customer experience.
  • Experience ensuring web or digital products complies with accessibility standards, privacy requirements security requirements, or organizational policies (such as Section 508, WCAG, or comparable industry standards).


To qualify for the Grade 14, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-13, it must include:

  • Experience leading or serving as a senior web, digital, or technical professional responsible for translating organizational goals, customer needs, business priorities, or mission requirements into functional web or digital product solutions.
  • Experience leading or directing user experience (UX) strategies, information architecture, user research, or design activities that improve the usability, accessibility, or effectiveness of web or digital products.
  • Experience ensuring web or digital products comply with applicable accessibility standards, security requirements, privacy requirements, or organizational policies (such as Section 508,  WCAG, security frameworks, or comparable industry standards).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Digital Product Strategy, Web Architecture & Technical Leadership - Knowledge of digital product strategy, enterprise web architecture, and modern web technologies sufficient to translate organizational goals into effective digital solutions, establish technical direction, and provide leadership for the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise web and digital products.
  • User Experience (UX), Information Architecture & Digital Design - Knowledge of user experience principles, information architecture, user research, and digital design practices sufficient to develop intuitive, accessible, and user-centered web experiences that improve navigation, usability, and customer engagement.
  • Digital Governance, Accessibility, Security & Compliance - Knowledge of accessibility standards, security principles, privacy requirements, and digital governance practices sufficient to develop and maintain secure, compliant, and accessible web and digital products while ensuring adherence to organizational and applicable regulatory requirements.


For all types of consideration, experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
