Job Summary of Web Developer
Purdue Northwest's Marketing and Communications department is seeking a Web Developer to join their team. The Web Developer will work within PNW's website design system and is responsible for adding features, troubleshooting integrations and ensuring the web environment remains up to date, accessible and secure. A nimble full-stack developer, this technical role is responsible for writing well-designed, testable, efficient code using best development practices. This role is also committed to continuous site improvement via user-experience optimization, A/B testing, web-accessibility review and analytics establishment and monitoring.
This position does have the opportunity for a flexible work schedule but does require a regular on-campus presence. We are looking to have someone start in this position on July 1, 2026.
Salary Range: $58,260 - $63,000

Duties and Responsibilities of Web Developer

  • Update the WordPress platform, plug-ins and installation, following a testing script through the Dev, Test and Live environments to ensure compatibility, performance and ongoing functionality (including custom elements and integrations).
  • Offer guidance, solutions and support to units throughout the university to enhance their websites and supporting marketing and outreach efforts. This includes offering feedback on integrated platforms and services, converting resources into web content, maintaining and updating key information on the site, including accessibility guidelines.
  • In coordination with the Marketing and Communications Leadership Team, posting timely emergency alert notifications related to crisis communication.
  • Support website and web-based learning accessibility as part of the overall website improvement needs.

Education of Web Developer
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred
Experience of Web Developer
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in professional web page development, concept implementation, content management software (CMS), project management, web accessibility, and responsive web design.
  • Experience using Google Tag manager, Google Analytics/GA4 and Google Cloud services
Core Competencies of Web Developer
  • Top-notch programming skills, including in-depth knowledge of modern HTML/CSS/PHP and web-authoring software (WordPress and /or other Content Management System (CMS)).
  • Strong understanding of additional web tools and technologies (e.g. Dynamic HTML (DHTML), JQuery, JavaScript, Image-Editing Software).
  • Knowledge of web performance optimization, search engine optimization (SEO), web accessibility guidelines (Section 508 and WCAG), Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) and responsive web design.
  • Basic understanding of GIT bash and branch environments as well as React JS and JSON.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including collaboration and partnership building.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
