In the role of Traffic Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to: 

  • Develop scripts and automation tools for traffic engineering and signal optimization workflows.
  • Process and QA/QC large transportation datasets including counts, probe data, and simulation outputs
  • Automate extraction, analysis, and reporting from VISSIM, Synchro, VISUM, and related platforms
  • Support development of traffic operations dashboards, GIS web tools, and internal applications
  • Assist with signal timing data management and batch optimization workflows
  • Build reusable data pipelines and reporting tools for simulation and operational analysis
  • Support AI/ML and advanced analytics initiatives related to transportation systems
  • Organize datasets and maintain reproducible workflows using version control and structured data practices
  • Collaborate with engineers and ITS staff to develop scalable technical solutions
  • Research and evaluate emerging transportation and smart mobility technologies
  • Prepare visualizations, graphics, and technical summaries for project delivery
  • Assist with prototyping innovative transportation technology and analytics tools
  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
  • Perform other duties as needed


 

Preferred Qualifications 
 
  • Obtained/Pursuing a degree in Computer Science (or related), Data Science, Engineering, GIS, or related technical field
  • Interest in transportation engineering, traffic operations, ITS, or smart mobility systems
  • Familiarity with data analysis, automation, APIs, and large dataset processing
  • Experience with GIS platforms, web applications, or dashboard development preferred
  • Experience with visualization tools, databases, or cloud platforms is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
     
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
