What is a web developer contract?

A Web Developer Contract is a legal agreement between a client and a web developer outlining the terms, responsibilities, deliverables, timeline, and payment for web development services. This contract protects both parties by clearly defining the scope of work, deadlines, and any intellectual property rights. It typically covers specifics such as website functionality, design, maintenance, and post-launch support. Having a contract helps to prevent misunderstandings and ensures that both the client and developer are aligned on expectations.

What are web developer contract jobs?

Web developer contract jobs involve the design or development of websites. In these positions, you work on different projects on a contract or freelance basis. Your duties depend on the type of development projects on which you work. As a front-end web developer, you work on the user interface, and your responsibilities focus on creating the visual and interactive elements of a web page or application. As a back-end developer, you may use SQL, PHP, or other languages to perform server-side development and connect the website to a database.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web developer contractor?

To thrive as a Web Developer Contractor, you need strong proficiency in programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks, supported by a portfolio of completed projects. Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, content management systems (CMS), and sometimes certifications like AWS Certified Developer can be valuable. Excellent problem-solving abilities, time management, and effective client communication are standout soft skills for this role. These capabilities are essential to deliver high-quality web solutions efficiently, meet client expectations, and adapt to diverse project requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by web developers working on a contract basis, and how can they be managed?

Contract web developers often encounter challenges such as rapidly adapting to new codebases, aligning with different teams' workflows, and managing client expectations within tight deadlines. Effectively communicating with stakeholders, clarifying project requirements early, and staying organized with project management tools can help mitigate these challenges. Additionally, being proactive in seeking feedback and documenting work thoroughly ensures smoother collaboration and successful project delivery.

Location: Omaha, NE (On-site Monday & Wednesday, Remote Tuesday–Friday)
Type: Contract | 13 Weeks (Possible Extension or Conversion)

About the Role

We are seeking a .NET Technical Lead Developer to join Mosaic in Omaha, NE. This hands-on technical leadership role will drive the design, development, and maintenance of modern .NET applications, API integrations, and data solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in .NET development, cloud and API integration, and experience mentoring development teams in an Agile environment.

This role offers a hybrid work schedule — in-office twice a week for collaboration, with the flexibility of remote work for the remaining days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, coding, and deployment of scalable .NET and React Native applications.
  • Maintain and enhance middleware integrations between on-prem, cloud, and SaaS data sources.
  • Participate in all Agile SDLC phases: planning, development, testing, deployment, and review.
  • Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure code quality and security.
  • Lead root cause analysis for production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Modernize and refactor legacy code (Perl, Python, PHP) into modern .NET frameworks.
  • Develop automation tools for testing and deployment to improve team efficiency.
  • Mentor junior developers, guiding them on best practices, architecture, and technical growth.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, estimate efforts, and recommend solutions.
  • Create and maintain documentation, development standards, and technical roadmaps.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, HCI, Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of professional experience in .NET application development.
  • Strong experience with modern web technologies (C#, ASP.NET Core, React, JavaScript, REST APIs).
  • Proven leadership experience guiding small to mid-sized development teams.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices and DevOps pipelines (CI/CD).
  • Experience working in regulated environments (HIPAA, FERPA, PCI, etc.) preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Cloud development experience (Azure or AWS).
  • Experience with microservices architecture and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead complex technical initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and mentorship abilities.
