About the Role:

Avmax is pleased to offer an aviation co-op opportunity to engineering students currently enrolled in an accredited Canadian university engineering co-op program.

The successful candidate will join our Engineering team in Calgary and work on developing a variety of aftermarket modifications for aircraft used in the regional airline market and special mission operations. During your term, you will be exposed to all aspects of the aircraft modification process, including establishing customer and regulatory requirements, engineering data creation, manufacturing requirements, design verification, and customer support.

You will also have the chance to gain hands-on experience through visits to our multiple hangars and the opportunity to interact with our manufacturing and maintenance staff who implement our modifications.

Reporting

The Mechanical Engineering - Co-op Student reports directly to the Director of Engineering. Day-to-day directions will be given by the Director of Engineering and/or designated engineering staff.

Core Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple teams simultaneously.
  • Strong computer drafting literacy with AutoCAD or SolidWorks; knowledge of both an asset.
  • Computer productivity literacy with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and mathematical reasoning.

Key Performance Indicators / Duties & Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the Director of Engineering and Structures Engineering department, assist with applying design principles to alterations for aircraft structure, systems, equipment, and furnishings.
  • Build or revise CAD drawings to support design and manufacturing activities for aircraft.
  • Produce, revise, or update detailed part, assembly and installation drawings for aircraft.
  • Update or define manufacturing requirements or engineering procedures, including ensuring that project work is maintained in accordance with the company DAPM and Engineering Procedures Manual.
  • Assist with continued airworthiness tasks and customer support for aircraft.
  • Any other duties may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Engineering.

  • Minimum completion of two academic semesters.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English (both written and verbal).

Experience

  • Previous work with engineering design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Has completed at least one materials engineering course (or equivalent).
  • Has completed at least one engineering design course (or equivalent).
  • Aviation experience (project, design, pilot, etc.) considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the aviation regulatory framework is considered an asset.
