Description

Key Responsibilities Including, but not limited to:

  • Safely operate and navigate vessels on rivers or canals using steering controllers, throttles, radar compasses, short-wave radios, depth finders, loud hailers, and other equipment to transport tow to its destination, while maintaining compliance with USCG regulation, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Train and supervise the crew in the safe and efficient performance of duties, including shifting and transporting barges, evaluating performance, and ensuring each crew member understands the cargo of each barge in tow and any associated hazards (CFR 35.05-15b).
  • Maintain and manage a clean, orderly, and hazard-free work environment on the vessel.
  • Carry out all duties under the Vessel Security Plan as the designated Vessel Security Officer.
  • Perform routine checks to ensure vessel readiness.
  • Complete required log entries accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain radio watch as required and utilize radio communication and visual navigation to safely maneuver waterways, docks, locks, and other vessel traffic.
  • Represent Turn Services professionally in all customer and agency interactions.

Certification/License Requirements:

  • TWIC
  • Master of Towing IGWR
  • Master of Towing - IWR
  • Radio License

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motion.
  • Must wear PPE (hard hat, eyewear, safety vest, gloves, steel-toe boots).
  • Ability to exerts:
    • 100 lbs. occasionally
    • 50 lbs. frequently
    • 20 lbs. constantly

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office and computer-based tools
  • Strong time management and organizational skill.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, adapt, and work in a team-orientated environment.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving abilities

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
