What are the most common challenges faced by waterproofing professionals on construction sites?

Waterproofing professionals often encounter challenges such as working in tight or hard-to-reach spaces, managing weather-related delays, and ensuring surfaces are properly prepared before application. Coordination with other trades is crucial, as waterproofing tasks often depend on the schedule and completion of other construction activities. Staying updated with the latest materials and application techniques is also important to meet safety standards and achieve long-lasting results.

What Are Waterproofing Jobs?

Waterproofing jobs are available in commercial and residential construction industries. Construction, roofing, general contracting, and masonry companies hire waterproofers for a range of building site tasks. As a waterproofer, you apply caulking, sealants, and coatings to roofing and structural joints to prevent water from getting through. Your responsibilities include determining the appropriate materials and processes to repair and waterproof a roof, ensuring clean and proper application of caulking and other compounds, and following company guidelines to complete each task. Job duties involve climbing up and down ladders, navigating difficult terrain while at high elevation, and working in all weather conditions to meet deadlines.

What is waterproofing and why is it important?

Waterproofing is the process of making a structure or surface resistant to water penetration. It is crucial for protecting buildings, basements, roofs, and other structures from water damage, which can lead to mold growth, structural deterioration, and costly repairs. Effective waterproofing extends the lifespan of buildings and maintains a healthy indoor environment by preventing leaks and moisture buildup.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Waterproofing Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Waterproofing Specialist, you need a solid understanding of construction practices, building materials, and safety procedures, often supported by on-the-job training or relevant certifications. Familiarity with waterproofing systems, sealants, membranes, and tools like moisture meters is important, and certifications such as those from the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) can be beneficial. The Opportunity

Master the Final Finish. Step Into a Defined Crew Leadership Pathway.

JNE Homes LLC is seeking an elite, highly qualified Lead Drywall, Paint & Restoration Specialist to serve as our primary technical authority for high-end residential finishing operations. This strategic position is engineered exclusively for a master craftsman who understands that the final surfaces dictate the true quality of a luxury remodel.

As a senior specialist on our team, you will enjoy deep operational autonomy while receiving the industry's best tooling, premium materials, and corporate backing. Because JNE Homes is expanding rapidly throughout the region, this role features a built-in promotion track to transition directly into a formal Field Leadership/Foreman role, where you will build, mentor, and oversee future dedicated crews of painters and drywallers. If you take immense pride in turning flawed surfaces into flawless architectural finishes, JNE Homes provides the stable, supportive platform your talent deserves.

Key Responsibilities

You will hold total on-site ownership over structural surface preparations, advanced texturing, coatings, and luxury accent installations:

  • Surface Engineering & Restoration: Execute expert-level drywall hanging, multi-coat tape-and-bed finishing, complex texture matching, and flawless historic surface restoration.
  • Logistics & Material Forecasting: Develop accurate, highly efficient material takeoffs and product lists for small-to-medium drywall and coatings scopes to optimize site productivity.
  • Production Coatings Operations: Command comprehensive interior and exterior painting operations utilizing high-pressure airless sprayers, specialized rigging, and advanced architectural coatings.
  • Advanced Substrate Preparation: Implement technical surface preparation protocols (including mechanical abrading, chemical profiling, and high-adhesion priming) for aluminum cladding, weathered wood siding, exterior decking, and entry systems.
  • Luxury Tile Installation: Install high-end kitchen tile backsplashes and fully waterproofed, high-tolerance custom tile shower systems following strict industry-best waterproofing practices.
  • Cross-Functional Structural Support: Maintain total project momentum by assisting field crews with residential framing modifications, finish carpentry trim, and custom cabinet installations as required.
  • Safety & Asset Stewardship: Enforce strict jobsite safety, maintaining full compliance while operating at elevated positions and managing sophisticated company finishing machinery.

What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Finishing Tenure: A minimum of 5 years of verified, professional experience executing high-end drywall finishing, patching, and structural paint applications.
  • Texture Fluency: Demonstrated mastery of drywall mud manipulation, skim coating, and seamlessly matching complex pre-existing residential plaster or drywall textures.
  • Coatings IQ: Expert knowledge of paint chemistry, specialized primers, curing timelines, and specific application methods across diverse interior and exterior substrates.
  • Waterproof Tile Geometry: Proven proficiency in custom tile layouts, including advanced hands-on knowledge of modern sheet or liquid shower waterproofing membranes.
  • Operational Drive: Sharp technical literacy with the ability to interpret complex architectural instructions and execute scopes independently with zero micromanagement.

Preferred Technical Assets:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous professional experience acting in a lead hand, supervisor, or field foreman capacity.
  • Broad cross-functional knowledge spanning general residential carpentry, subfloor modifications, and structural framing.

Compensation & Premium Benefits

We treat our finish craftsmen as essential long-term partners, providing a premium rewards package built for financial growth and stability:

  • Top-Tier Base Pay: $27.00 – $32.00 per hour customized directly to your professional finishing portfolio.
  • Performance Bonuses: Direct eligibility for structured, performance-based cash bonuses tied to project efficiency and quality metrics.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical insurance package including full Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage frameworks.
  • Work-Life Balance: Dedicated allocations for Paid Time Off (PTO) covering company-recognized holidays and personal sick leave.
  • Field Support Assets: Professional company uniforms and all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) fully provided by the employer.
