We are seeking an Engineer within our Education and Engineering Services group to support the development and delivery of AWWAโ€™s technical programs, research initiatives, and educational content. This role partners with members, volunteers, and internal teams to produce high-quality technical resources and programs that advance knowledge across the water sector and support AWWAโ€™s 50,000+ member base.
Essential Functions
  • Develop and execute technical programs, projects, and deliverables that support AWWA priorities and advance knowledge across the water sector
  • Manage development of educational content, publications, and conference programming, ensuring quality and alignment with organizational goals
  • Produce technical reports, articles, and program content addressing key industry topics across technical, managerial, and financial areas
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and volunteer committees to deliver high-impact programs and content
  • Manage data collection, surveys, research, and data analysis to generate insights that inform program development and decision-making
  • Support and lead assigned committees and volunteer groups, ensuring effective engagement and execution
  • Ensure technical accuracy and quality across publications, presentations, and program outputs
  • Represent AWWA programs through conference participation and stakeholder engagement as needed
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and organizational priorities as needed
Qualifications
Education, Certification or Formal Training:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering or water-related scientific discipline required; Masterโ€™s degree preferred
  • Engineer in Training (EIT), Engineer Intern (EI) registration or Professional Engineer (PE) registration attractive
Work Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) yearsโ€™ technical experience including program, project, or research-based work and a minimum of three (3) yearsโ€™ experience in the water sector
  • Masterโ€™s degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of professional work experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water, wastewater, reuse, and/or stormwater utility operations required
  • Utility management and/or operations experience highly preferred
  • Project management experience required
  • Experience working with distributed stakeholder groups, volunteers and/or large committees preferred
Required Skills:

  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required;

Compensation/Benefits:
Pay is dependent upon qualifications; Pay range is targeted between $82,400 - $100,000 per year and is paired with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
  • Immediate eligibility and vesting for retirement savings plan with a 3% employer contribution and up to 3% company match upon hire.
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision plans with generous cost sharing by employer.
  • Three separate paid time off accounts (Vacation, Sick, and Personal).
  • Flexible work schedules (Flex Fridays and Hybrid Remote Work Policy).
