Job description


We're looking for a reliable, safety-conscious Water Utility Worker to install, operate, maintain, and repair water distribution infrastructure across New Mexico. You'll work on water mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, PRVs, and meters - operating heavy equipment and supporting day-to-day utility operations. This is a contract-to-hire role with a strong union benefits package after conversion.
Pay: $21.40 per hour
What you'll do
  • Install, operate, locate, maintain, and repair water distribution infrastructure - mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, PRVs, and meters
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance of water and wastewater systems
  • Locate and mark underground water, wastewater, and reclaimed water services using maps and tools
  • Operate heavy equipment including dump trucks, hydro excavators, and Ditch Witch
  • Dig, refill, and maintain ditches and trenches; haul and spread sand, gravel, dirt, and waste products
  • Perform routine vehicle and equipment inspections; maintain grounds and facilities
  • Follow all project SOPs and inventory control procedures
  • Respond to on-call shifts and after-hours callouts in a timely manner
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all contacts

Deal breakers - required to be considered
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license
  • New Mexico Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of experience working in the water utility field

Nice to have
  • Knowledge of water distribution operations and maintenance
  • Competency operating heavy equipment
  • Digital literacy - maintenance management systems, mobile apps
  • NM Water Supply Level 1 or NM Water Distribution System 1 certification - or ability to obtain within 2 years
