Job description

Job Summary:

The Engineering Intern will support the planning, design, and construction of utility infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems. This internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world civil engineering projects while working under the supervision of licensed professional engineers and project managers in both office and field settings.

Your Responsibilities as an Engineering Intern:

  • Assist project managers and engineers with utility infrastructure projects by supporting project coordination, schedule tracking, and basic budget-related tasks.
  • Perform designs on engineering projects under direction of Project Manager.
  • Assist with permit preparation by helping organize application materials and tracking permit review status.
  • Participate in construction observations and field visits under supervision; assist with field notes, photographs, and documentation.
  • Support communication and coordination efforts with construction managers, contractors, inspectors, owners, and permitting agencies as part of the project team.
  • Prepare or assist with technical documents such as reports, calculations, project summaries, and professional correspondence.
  • Gain exposure to water and wastewater pipeline design, pump stations, hydraulic modeling, and/or treatment plant projects.
  • Work in office and field environments as required to support project needs.

What we're looking for:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Preferring students that are targeting December 2026 graduation.
  • Can work minimum 16 hours per week on average during fall semester out of Fort Myers office.
  • Previous internship or coursework related to civil or utility engineering desired.
  • Interest in water, wastewater, or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • AutoCAD, GIS experience desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability and willingness to interact professionally with team members, clients, and regulatory agencies under guidance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license and a satisfactory driving record, as limited travel to project sites may be required.
  • Sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
