This position operates a truck along an assigned route to collect and transport commercial waste, residential waste, and yard waste.
• Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Completes required reports and logs.
• Drives a refuse collection truck along an assigned route to collect solid waste, commercial waste, or yard waste.
• Transports refuse to landfill.
• Washes exterior or vehicle; keeps interior free of trash.
• Performs routine maintenance on truck; checks fuel, oil and other fluids.
• Oversees the work of personnel assigned to the truck.
• Follows all traffic laws and regulations.
• Maintains radio contact with dispatcher.
• Performs related duties.
Requirements
• Knowledge of city streets and landmarks.
• Knowledge of equipment operation principles.
• Knowledge of traffic laws.
• Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
• Skill in the supervision of personnel.
• Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles and equipment.

• Skill in interpersonal relations.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Valid Georgia CDL Class "B" Required.
