The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for supporting the Warehouse Manager and assists in all activities relating to warehouse operations for the assigned location, including implementation of strategic departmental initiatives and meaningful metrics to effectively manage, perform, and monitor all aspects of warehousing, logistics, and inventory management.  If you have previous warehouse leadership experience and work well in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you. Directly assist in the effort to achieve a high level of productivity, efficiency and customer service:

  • Act as facility manager in the absence of the primary Warehouse Manager; Supervise Outbound and Inbound Warehouse Managers when necessary
  • Verify customer service goals are continuously met
  • Help receive, analyze and react to daily status reports across all distribution center functional areas
  • Facilitate routing of deliveries to customers and stores to find the most efficient route. Plan routes for shuttles that travel between (hub) warehouses and stores (spokes)
  • Aid in the analyzing of data on deliveries and transportation between hub warehouse and stores and recommend/implement improvements
  • Communicate and collaborate effort of ensuring dock to stock for most lines within 72 hours
  • Audit and adjust processes and oversee employee productivity metrics
  • Formulate and enforce picking goals for each area/zone of the warehouse
  • Work with purchasing to develop and implement procedures for unloading orders from vendors and stocking them on our shelves
  • Ensure trucks/ trailers are efficiently and accurately loaded/ unloaded to support the efficient movement of goods and materials to their destinations to fulfill commitment to our customers and support sales objectives
  • Work with dispatchers and outbound production team to enhance customer service via delivery vehicles

Staff Management:

  • Lead and supervise a team of managers to include supervision of Outbound and Inbound Warehouse Managers in absence of the primary Warehouse Manager
  • Recommend adjustments for staffing across multi-functional platforms when timelines are in jeopardy and plan staffing/workflow according to dynamic market changes
  • Assist in assigning staff to individual warehouse jobs, and help develop and implement improvements in job staffing, including incorporating time studies.
  • Identify, motivate, mentor and develop high performers
  • Train, develop and motivate all team members
  • Provide valuable and actionable feedback to team members during review periods and ongoing for consistent team growth.
  • Hold team members accountable to high productivity metrics; coach for improvement as needed.
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Oversee operations:

  • Provide guidance and recommendations to warehouse manager on warehouse budget, operating expenses and project capital expenditures (as necessary)
  • Reinforce 5S warehouse principles are administered and followed on a routine basis
  • Support a meticulous standard for cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout the warehouse
  • Foster a safe working environment. Reassure that safety and compliance practices meet DOT and OSHA standards
  • Frequently communicate with warehouse manager and when necessary executive level management
  • Manage carrier (FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.) and local (contract) delivery relationships
  • Maintain and promote workplace safety
  • Securing and transferring cash or other assets. 

Requirements: Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Five (5) years demonstrated expertise in supply chain, logistics, and high volume, time sensitive distribution required
  • HS diploma required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience with WMS/ inventory management system, RF technology and conveyor technology
  • Experience in tracking metrics, including key performance indicators such as inbound/outbound productivity
  • Must have excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports using PowerPoint, Excel (V-Lookups) and Word
  • Must possess ability to multi-task and adjust to dynamic order flow fluctuations as needed
  • Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to identify areas drifting behind in production and proactively take action to get back on track
  • Strong skills and experience in team/personnel management
  • Must possess outstanding customer relations skills
  • Experience in internet e-fulfilment is a plus
  • Knowledge of automotive parts preferred
  • Forklift, Hazmat and OSHA Certifications preferred, required upon hire
  • Clean/ valid driver’s license preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated drive to achieve results
  • Ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds, stand/ walk for up to 10 hours, able to squat, bend and reach, able to climb and descend stairs safely (applies to locations with stairs)
  • Ability to work powered equipment (forklift, cherry picker etc)
