Job description

Southshore is an ISO 9001: 2015 certified third-party logistics provider delivering cost effective integrated logistics and outsourcing supply chain solutions to businesses in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska and Iowa.
The Assistant Site Manager helps lead a team of lift truck operators (LTOs), auditors, customer service representatives (CSRs), and supervisors. The Assistant Site Manager plays a critical roles in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of the regional distribution center (RDC), meeting customer requirements, and maintaining a high standard of operational excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist Site Manager with day-today operations of the RDC. Help schedule, assign, and perform various warehousing duties including loading and unloading trucks, put-away and picking, and maintaining warehouse organization and cleanliness.
  • Assist the Site Manager, as requested, with the company's HRIS system to ensure that timecard review and approval is completed for employees and temporary employees in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Site Manager, as requested, to ensure temporary services receives timecards for temporary employees for payment to their employees.
  • Lead, motivate, and direct the warehouse staff to deliver best-in-class customer service through operational excellence.
  • Provide coaching and leadership to all site supervisory and on-supervisory personnel, and ensures the company's culture, values, and processes are upheld. Coaching includes, but it not limited to, disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and/or commendations.
  • Foster a team environment that motivates, inspires, educates, and empowers or team members to reach their full potential.
  • Effectively leading through clear, direct and respectful communication.
  • Assist with inventory and audit control using warehouse management system (SAP).
  • Conduct interviews with potential team members as necessary to ensure proper staffing of the RDC team.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports according to processes and procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement through lean thinking and 5S mentality.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Southshore Companies safety manual.
  • Regular (punctual and dependable) attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelors degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 plus years of warehouse management experience is required; additional education may be substituted for years of work experience.
  • Powered Industrial Forklift License (we will train and provide certification). Prior license/certification is highly preferred.

Knoweldge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
  • Leadership & management skills: must be excellent at leading, assigning work, and motivating staff to deliver exceptional performance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, allocate resources efficiently, and meet operational objectives while managing administrative duties effectively in a continuously changing environment.
  • Ability to interface and communicate with customers, the leadership team within Southshore Companies, and the customers' leadership team.
  • Ability to pay attention to details.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work the hours the business needs (typically Monday - Friday) with flexibility during peak season, January - April.
  • Mechanical aptitude skills are required.
  • Knowledge of warehouse SAP program preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Regularly required to talk and/or hear to communicate with management, supervisors, employees, customers, and/or truck drivers.
  • Manual dexterity is required for operating machinery.
  • Occasionally required to bend, twist, turn, kneel, and/or squat.
  • Occasionally required to stand and/or walk on the concrete warehouse floor.
  • Occasionally required to use hands and fingers to handle or fell objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to sit and work on a computer,
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with a warehouse.
  • Safety equipment includes but not limited to hi-vis safety vest or shirt, safety glasses, gloves, closed toe shoes, long sleeves, long pants, above ankle socks and masks (as needed).

Pay:
  • $70,000 + based on experience.
