Job Summary
The Warehouse Material Handler plays a vital role in maintaining the flow of donated goods throughout the warehouse. This position ensures donations are efficiently sorted, processed, and prepared for distribution or recycling. The role is highly physical and requires operating warehouse equipment safely and effectively while working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. Some of the key duties include unloading donations, sorting and organizing goods, operating heavy equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe work area.
Example Duties and Activities
  • Unloads and loads trailers with donated goods using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment in accordance with OSHA safety standards.
  • Expedites the movement of goods between processing, storage, and dock areas.
  • Provides excellent customer service to donors, offering assistance and education about Goodwill's mission and programs.
  • Ensures all donations are handled carefully and respectfully.
  • Sorts and processes donations, ensuring items are appropriately categorized for retail, recycling, or disposal.
  • Operates a baler to compact recyclable goods, preparing them for shipment.
  • Organizes and stacks recycled materials and disposes of metals for recycling.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized warehouse environment by sweeping floors, labeling boxes, and keeping work areas clear.
  • Monitors and performs preventative checks on warehouse equipment.
  • Identifies and reports unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or potential hazards to leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support overall warehouse operations.

  • Knowledge of Warehouse Processes - Possesses familiarity with receiving, putaway, storage, picking, packing, and shipping to ensure continuous efficient warehousing operations. Has used pallet jack, double stacker, baler, and/or tipper.
  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customers' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.
  • Customer Focus - Has the ability to see, comprehend and relate with customers in an impartial, unbiased yet effective and balanced manner; builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the organization; provides excellent service to internal and external customers.
  • Mathematical Aptitude - Adds and subtracts two-digit numbers and multiplies and divides with 10s and 100s. Is able to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
