Job description

Project Architect - Decatur, IL
This is a permanent, full-time, exempt-level position located on-site at our Decatur, IL complex.
About the Role
We are seeking a Project Architect with strong experience in industrial building design and a working knowledge of structural steel systems.
This role is ideal for an architect who can lead and/or consult on projects from concept through construction, coordinate effectively with engineers, and manage technical documentation with accuracy and confidence.
The successful candidate will have experience delivering projects both big and small at  manufacturing facilities, warehouses, logistics centers, distribution facilities, maintenance buildings, industrial plants, or similar large-scale commercial/industrial structures.
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Lead architectural design and technical development for industrial building projects
  • Manage projects from schematic design through construction documentation and construction administration
  • Coordinate closely with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and specialty consultants and engineers
  • Develop and review drawings, specifications, details, schedules, and project documentation
  • Apply knowledge of structural steel framing, roof structures, cladding, and industrial building envelope systems
  • Ensure designs meet applicable building codes, zoning requirements, egress, accessibility standards, and client requirements
  • Review existing buildings for code compliance
  • Review and provide Seal responsibility for construction documentation 
  • Participate in project meetings, coordination meetings, and site visits
  • Mentor junior architectural staff and support quality control of project deliverables
  • Coordinate with contractors during construction to resolve design and field issues
  • Support internal standards, technical detailing, and best practices for industrial architecture

Required Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture from an accredited program
  • Approximately 7-12+ years of professional architectural experience
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, or large-scale commercial buildings
  • Strong understanding of construction documentation, detailing, building codes, and permitting processes
  • Experience coordinating with structural engineers, particularly on steel-framed buildings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to obtain licensed architect designation or SE license within two years of hire

Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program with emphasis in Structural design
  • Licensed Architect in Illinois or ability to transfer license within a reasonable amount of time
  • Direct experience with structural steel building systems, pre-engineered metal buildings, crane-supported structures, mezzanines, equipment platforms, or heavy industrial environments
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Bluebeam or similar tools
  • Familiarity with facility siting studies, hazardous occupancy, high-bay spaces, process-driven layouts, or specialized industrial equipment coordination
  • LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable industrial design is a plus
