Job description

Short Description

The Delivery Driver functions in a critical supporting role in the delivery of raw materials to our shop as well as the delivery on finished products to various jobsites throughout New Mexico and the southwest region. CDL is not required but the Delivery Driver must be fully competent and comfortable driving/securing loads of raw materials (lumber, sheet goods etc.) and high-end custom finished product (cabinets and furniture) onto vehicles ranging from cargo vans to 30-foot-long gooseneck trailers. Much of the loading and unloading is done by hand with the aid of dollies and carts. Forklifts are routinely used as well. Administrative tools like the shipping tickets and adhering to Process Guidelines are key to being successful in this position.

While the delivery driver/material handler is in the midst of the Fabrication, Delivery and Installation of our numerous products, driver/material handler is not doing fabrication, delivery and installation directly. Driver/material handler is supplying material for products to be fabricated. Driver/material handler is organizing completed product for delivery, storage and eventually installation. Administrative tools like the shipping tickets and adhering to Process Guidelines are key to being successful in this position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Delivery Driver routinely interacts with Shop Foreman, Purchasing Agent, Logistics Manager, Benchmen and Install Supervisors/Foremen. Communicates continuously with Logistics Manager on delivery requirements such as delivery dates, job locations and onsite contacts. Communication with Purchasing Agent inform Delivery driver where and when raw material pickups are needed. The Delivery Driver and Logistics Manager will collaborate to go through and fill shipping tickets. The Delivery Driver and Apprentice Benchmen work together to unload and disperse product for large jobs. Close communication with Install Supervisors and/or Foreman to communicate drop off points and verification of shipping ticket contents. Check-ins with the Shop Foreman ensure accuracy of shipping tickets, product fabrication start dates and delivery date viability. Check-ins with the Purchasing Agent ensure goods received are correct quantity and stored in proper place. The driver/material handler will interact with Shop Benchmen to locate finished products for loading.

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Picking up miscellaneous materials (laminate, sheet goods, lumber, hardware etc.) from local suppliers
  • Cleaning and wrapping product for delivery
  • Gather all items to be shipped (cabinets, hardware, shelving, touchup kit, chop saws etc.) to prepare a job packet for delivery
  • Staging Materials for CNC/Saws/Benchmen
  • Warehouse logistics; organizing, storing, distribution of materials.
  • Using shipping tickets as a guide for loading and securing finished product and equipment into/onto cargo vans, trailers etc.
  • Delivering Product to jobsite per Established Process
  • Unloading and dispersing finished product to appropriate areas of jobsite
  • Monitoring delivery vehicles and trailers for routine maintenance. Notifying Jaynes Tool Room when necessary for repairs/maintenance
  • Safety is critical in all activities

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Shop/yard/warehouse upkeep

Qualifications

  • Clean driving record
  • Motivated, Self-Starter, well organized, can apply urgency and efficiency to daily tasks
  • Can take directions and complete tasks as delegated without much oversight.
  • Knowledge of commercial casework and millwork industry a plus but not required
  • Minimum high School diploma or GED
  • Computer skills: familiarity with Outlook, Excel and Word is a plus
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, manage to-do lists, and work under deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Supervisory Responsibility

Work Environment

This job based out of a factory and office setting but also requires routine trips to construction sites and suppliers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the Essential Functions of this job. 

Assistance in shop activities and or loading and unloading of product and tools/equipment require a need to perform regular physical lifting and carrying product and tools regularly.

This is a full-time hourly union position.

Travel

This position requires travel to assigned jobsites.

  1. Must pass a pre-employment screen, including but not limited to: drug and alcohol screen, background check, motor vehicle records check, reference check and physical (if applicable).
  2. Current and valid drivers’ license in the state of permanent residence (must be insurable by Jayne’s automobile insurance carrier in order to drive a Jayne’s vehicle).
