Job description

The Mechanic I is responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work process instructions in order to repair or replace industrial machinery. This position reports directly to the Lead man or Foreman as assigned.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned. Adjust and maintain industrial machinery, using control and regulating devicesAdjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranesDismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand toolsAssemble gear systems, and align frames and gearsClean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solventClean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehiclesDiagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devicesExamine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gaugesFabricate needed parts or items from sheet metal.Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.Operate and inspect machines or heavy marine equipment to diagnose defectsOverhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiencyRepair and replace damaged or worn partsRepair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systemsSchedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records. Increase awareness of Quality procedures within department Perform as a productive working team member that meets daily goals set by the supervisor. General Knowledge of USN Standard ItemsKnowledge of valves repair and re-buildKnowledge of repair and overhaul of pumpsAdjust and maintain industrial machinery and possess knowledge of machinery alignmentRequired Education and Experience:High School Diploma or Certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience in mechanic role preferred.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and measure using the metric system0-2 years' experience working in a Shipyard/and or industrial environment Must be TWIX card and DBIDS credential eligible (as required)Additional Requirements:Must pass a drug screenMust have a current U.S Driver's LicenseWorking Conditions:Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office controlled environmentMay have to visit projects aboard ships, rigs both on and offshore as well as confined spaces.
