Job description

Position Description This position organizes, coordinates, and oversees the daily operations and activities of the fire/rescue training towers and all fire/rescue/hazardous materials simulation areas at the Eastern Wake campus.

These training areas must be in compliance with the NC Education and Training Standards rules and regulations, NC Office of the State Fire Marshall regulations, NC Office of Emergency Medical Services regulations, and with Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies standards. This position also serves as a Fire Training Center Safety Officer at the Eastern Wake Campus location and other PSTA training sites. Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions) To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described. *Supervises, organizes, coordinates, and oversees the daily operations and activities of the fire/rescue training towers and all simulation areas at the Eastern Wake PSSC; plans, coordinates, and schedules facility usage and appropriate staff coverage; inspects all simulation areas for needed repairs and submits work orders; directs the issuance and control of apparatus and simulation equipment to instructors and students. *Develops course curricula, training schedules and the application of classroom and practical training techniques in addition to the planning, coordinating, and supervising classroom instruction and practical training at various designated locations.

Work requires the exercise of a high degree of initiative and independent judgment. *Coordinates and maintains liaison with a variety of fire service agencies and professional organizations regarding the drill towers and all simulation area programs, operations, usage, and training needs; maintains up-to-date knowledge of technological advances in fire/rescue/hazardous materials training; attends trade shows, conferences, and seminars; reviews all simulation areas to ensure they can accommodate advances in technology and new equipment deployment. *Directly supervises all training activities assigned to the PSSC fire training staff and adjunct instructors including scheduling and managing the performance of staff and instructors *Hires, supervises, and schedules fire/rescue/hazardous materials instructors *Collaborated with internal auditors to ensure program compliance with all NC Community College System rules and NC OSFM rules *Ensures safety inspections of all staff entering the fire training grounds and all simulation areas,including classrooms *Maintains inventory of items stored and issued; compiles data and maintains records for the drill towers, apparatus, and equipment.

*Investigates and reports injuries/accidents that occur on the fire training grounds *Maintains weekly maintenance for drill towers and all simulation areas to ensure the training areas remain safe and in compliance *Coordinates the disposal of training debris and extrication training vehicles *Coordinate quarterly instructor training meetings and updates Maintain current qualification in the high liability/high-risk area 1403 Live Fire Assist the development of a budget, purchase equipment, training aids, replace broken equipment while being a steward of Wake Tech and Federal and State grant resources. Provides all logistical support for all reality-based training activities. Designs, coordinates, and implements training or remedial training programs upon request from partnering agencies.

Operates, manages and maintains computer systems relating to all simulation areas and control systems Ensures monthly inspections of training equipment in conjunction with specialized faculty Conducts class visits to ensure proper safety protocols are being followed and documents the class visit utilizing the WTCC Continuing Education Record of Class Visitation form Ensures specialty instructors are currently qualified in their specialty subject area such as 1403 Live Fire, TR Common and Heavy Vehicle Extrication, TR Ropes, TR Confined Space, TR Trench Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and High-Rise Firefighting Operations Reviews incident report logs from the Director of Campus Services for any safety policy violations. If any safety policy violations are identified, fire services staff of the violation, along with suggested corrective action that has been taken Advises the Provost on all facilities and equipment matters and concerns Issues applicable weather alerts and information that affect Public Safety Training Coordinates with the Director of Campus Services to organize required fire alarm testing, fire drills, tornado drills, and lock down drills Handles all issues with building maintenance, warranty items, while keeping Director of Campus Services apprised Assists in annual reviews of Fire Training Center policies related to high-risk and security/safety concerns and any others as assigned Ensures all activities are following applicable WTCC policies and procedures Maintains documentation for NC OSFM Schedules and manages all access to training spaces for the Fire Training Center and Non-public safety programs, tours, and visits Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Demonstrated high degree of initiative and independent judgment Knowledge of current applicable occupational safety and health laws Knowledge of fire apparatus, fire equipment, structural fire turnout gear, live fire training, fire flow path management, Technical Rescue, Driver Operator, and Hazardous Materials response. Knowledge of NC OSFM and Certification Board rules and policies Ability to exercise sound judgment and make sound decisions Ability to multi-task and meet stringent deadlines.

Excellent time management skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively Ability to interact and provide information to individuals and groups Competency in applying and using a computer and emerging technologies Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma Instructor Level II Minimum Instructor Qualifications: Firefighter and Live Fire 1403 Five years of related work experience in public safety instruction Extensive travel between campuses is required Valid Driver's license and approval required by the College's liability insurance carrier Preferences: Associate Degree Previous Fire Service supervisory experience Ten years' related work experience in Fire/Rescue Instruction Qualifications in D/O EVD, Pumps, or Aerials, TR- Ropes, confined space, common passenger vehicle, heavy vehicle rescue, and trench rescue, Instructor I, II, Fire Officer I, II Experience teaching in a fire academy and managing OSFM certification programs Three years scheduling and oversight experience in fire training #IDHP As an equal employment opportunity employer, Wake Tech values our workforce.
