What are Wags, and what do they do?

Wags is a pet care service company that primarily offers dog walking, pet sitting, and related pet care services. Their professionals, often referred to as 'Wag! Walkers,' provide on-demand or scheduled dog walks, pet sitting, boarding, and drop-in visits. The company connects pet owners with vetted caregivers through a mobile app, ensuring pets receive exercise, care, and attention when their owners are away or busy. Wags also offers features like real-time GPS tracking, photo updates, and personalized care instructions to give pet owners peace of mind. Their services are available in many cities across the United States.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Dog Walker (Wags) and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dog Walker, you need a genuine love for animals, physical stamina, and a basic understanding of pet care, often supported by prior experience with dogs. Familiarity with GPS tracking apps, scheduling systems, and pet first aid certification is typically beneficial. Excellent communication, reliability, and patience help foster positive relationships with both clients and their pets. These skills ensure the safety, well-being, and satisfaction of the dogs and their owners, which is crucial for building trust and repeat business.

What are some common challenges faced by dog walkers working with Wags, and how can they be managed?

Dog walkers working with Wags often encounter challenges such as managing unpredictable pet behavior, navigating varied weather conditions, and coordinating schedules with pet owners. Building strong communication with clients and understanding each dog's needs can help prevent issues during walks. Additionally, staying organized and using Wags' app features can streamline scheduling and ensure all client instructions are followed, leading to a smoother experience both for the walker and the pets.

Job description

Great Dogs Deserve Great Leaders. Great Leaders Deserve Great Dogs.

Great dogs deserve leaders who will keep them safe, help them thrive, and bring out their best. And great leaders deserve the chance to spend their days doing work they genuinely enjoy-with an incredible pack of well-socialized dogs that make coming to work something to look forward to.

The Wags Club is looking for a Dog Daycare Team Lead to help guide our team at one of West Los Angeles' premier dog daycare, boarding, and grooming facilities.

This is a true leadership position. You'll work alongside your team, supervise active dog playgroups, coach and develop employees, solve problems as they arise, and help ensure every shift runs safely, smoothly, and on schedule.

Whether you've already been leading teams or you're ready to step into your first formal leadership role, we're looking for someone who leads by example, stays calm under pressure, communicates well, and genuinely enjoys helping both people and dogs succeed.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $19-$21 per hour, depending on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Holiday pay
  • Bring your dog to work for free
  • Employee discounts on eligible services
  • Opportunities for advancement within our growing company

What You'll Do as a Leader

As a Dog Daycare Team Lead, you will:

  • Lead and support the daycare team throughout each shift
  • Set the example by following and reinforcing our dog-handling, safety, and operational procedures
  • Supervise active dog playgroups while maintaining a calm, safe, and positive environment
  • Coach newer employees and help build their confidence, judgment, and dog-handling skills
  • Keep daily operations organized and on schedule
  • Recognize developing problems and respond calmly before they escalate
  • Communicate staff, dog, client, or facility concerns to management
  • Help manage dog introductions, transitions, meals, medications, and special-care instructions
  • Complete incident reports and other documentation accurately and promptly
  • Assist with cleaning, sanitizing, yard maintenance, and other hands-on animal care duties
  • Jump in wherever needed to help the team succeed

This is a working leadership position. You'll spend your day both leading people and caring for dogs.

Who We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Have previous experience as a Team Lead, Shift Lead, Shift Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or similar leadership role
  • Have experience working in a dog daycare, boarding kennel, veterinary hospital, grooming salon, animal shelter, or other animal-care environment
  • Are a high-performing employee who is ready to step into your first formal leadership position
  • Naturally take initiative instead of waiting to be told what to do
  • Lead by example and earn the respect of those around you
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers, managers, and clients
  • Stay calm, organized, and decisive in a fast-paced environment
  • Are dependable, punctual, and accountable
  • Enjoy coaching others and helping your team succeed
  • Aren't afraid to jump in and help with every aspect of the job

We believe great leaders aren't necessarily the loudest people in the room. They're the ones who consistently demonstrate good judgment, professionalism, reliability, and a willingness to support both their team and the dogs in their care.

What the Job Is Really Like

Dog daycare is active, physical, hands-on work. You'll spend much of your day on your feet, supervising groups of dogs, interacting with clients and coworkers, and helping maintain a clean, safe environment.

You must be comfortable bending, lifting more than 25 pounds, cleaning up after dogs, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and responding quickly when dogs or coworkers need assistance.

If you're looking for a job where every day is different, where your leadership truly matters, and where you'll go home knowing you made a difference-for both your team and hundreds of dogs-this may be exactly what you're looking for.

Qualifications

  • Previous work history demonstrating reliability and dependability
  • Leadership, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred
  • Professional animal-care experience strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good judgment, organization, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team
  • Ability to learn and consistently follow established procedures

About The Wags Club

Ready to Step Up?

If you're looking for more than just another job-if you're ready to build a career, lead a great team, and spend your days working with dogs-we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and tell us why you'd be a great addition to The Wags Club.
