Automotive Visualization Designer

Czinger

Torrance, CA • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Purpose

We are seeking a creative and technically capable Automotive Visualization Designer to join our small, highly collaborative design team. This role combines high-quality automotive visualization, vehicle specification development, CMF support, and design-data preparation.

The ideal candidate will have strong visual judgment, an interest in automotive design, and the technical aptitude required to work with complex 3D design and engineering data. Proficiency in Autodesk VRED and working knowledge of Autodesk Alias are required, including an understanding of how Alias data is prepared, transferred, updated, and managed within VRED visualization workflows.

This position is well suited to a junior-to-mid-level designer who is hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable taking responsibility across several areas. Because the design team is small, the successful candidate must be willing to move between creative, technical, and production-oriented tasks as project needs evolve.

The Role
  • Create high-quality still images, animations, presentations, and real-time visualizations for automotive design, customer specification, marketing, and internal review purposes.
  • Prepare, optimize, and manage complex 3D vehicle data for use in Autodesk VRED and other visualization platforms.
  • Import, organize, update, and troubleshoot Autodesk Alias data within VRED.
  • Maintain effective interoperability between Alias and VRED, including geometry transfer, tessellation, hierarchy management, material assignment, data updating, and preservation of design intent.
  • Work closely with designers using Alias to ensure that visualization data accurately reflects the latest design surfaces and releases.
  • Work closely with designers, engineers, CMF specialists, sales teams, and marketing teams to translate technical and creative requirements into compelling visual content.
  • Support the development of bespoke customer vehicle specifications, including exterior colors, liveries, graphics, materials, trims, finishes, and other personalized design elements.
  • Produce accurate visual representations of customer configurations for design approval, customer presentations, and internal communication.
  • Provide creative design input when developing individual customer specifications, while maintaining the design intent, brand identity, and visual quality of the vehicle.
  • Support the CMF and broader design teams through material visualization, color development, finish studies, graphic applications, and design presentations.
  • Develop bespoke vehicle liveries and graphic treatments in collaboration with Design, Sales, Marketing, and individual customers.
  • Act as a bridge between design, engineering data, and visualization workflows.
  • Access vehicle and component data through the company's PLM environment, including Teamcenter or similar systems.
  • Retrieve, organize, convert, clean, simplify, and post-process design and engineering data for visualization use.
  • Maintain accurate and current visualization datasets as design and engineering releases evolve.
  • Identify and resolve common geometry, surface, tessellation, material, hierarchy, naming, and data-quality issues.
  • Help establish efficient and repeatable workflows for importing, preparing, updating, and managing vehicle data from Alias, Teamcenter, and other engineering sources.
  • Innovate and apply new visualization techniques that improve the quality, speed, and impact of design reviews, customer presentations, and project demonstrations.
  • Assist with the continued development of the department's visualization tools, standards, asset libraries, and working practices.
  • Support additional design and visualization activities as required within a small and fast-moving team.
Basic Qualifications
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong 3D visualization, rendering, digital design, or automotive-related work.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk VRED, including scene preparation, materials, lighting, cameras, rendering, animation, and complex data management.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Alias and its use within an automotive design-development environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of interoperability between Autodesk Alias and VRED.
  • Ability to transfer, tessellate, organize, update, and troubleshoot Alias surface data within VRED while preserving geometry quality, hierarchy, and design intent.
  • Understanding of Alias surface structures, layers, naming conventions, assemblies, shaders, and common data-export workflows.
  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to understand complex 3D data, software workflows, and production requirements.
  • Working knowledge of 3D geometry preparation, scene organization, materials, lighting, cameras, rendering, and image composition.
  • A strong visual eye and a sound understanding of proportion, aesthetics, color, materials, lighting, and composition.
  • Sufficient design sensitivity to contribute meaningfully to vehicle specifications, liveries, CMF studies, and customer-facing design decisions.
  • Comfort working with CAD-derived engineering data, Class-A surface data, polygonal data, and large, complex 3D assemblies.
  • Willingness to learn and regularly use Teamcenter or another PLM system to locate, retrieve, and manage engineering data.
  • Ability to balance creative quality with technical accuracy, deadlines, and changing project requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across Design, Engineering, CMF, Sales, and Marketing.
  • A proactive, flexible, and hands-on approach suited to a small multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in automotive, transportation, industrial design, product visualization, or a related field.
  • Experience working directly with automotive designers and Class-A surface modelers.
  • Experience creating vehicle configurator imagery, customer specifications, bespoke commissions, liveries, or CMF presentations.
  • Familiarity with automotive CAD data, digital vehicle models, Class-A surfaces, polygonal geometry, tessellation, and data optimization.
  • Experience using Teamcenter or another PLM or product-data-management system.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, or similar creative software.
  • Experience with Alias, Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, or comparable 3D applications.
  • Knowledge of scripting, automation, or workflow development within VRED is a big plus.
  • Experience producing animations, interactive presentations, VR, virtual environments, or real-time design-review content.
  • An understanding of automotive materials, finishes, manufacturing processes, and vehicle design development.
Candidate Profile
  • The successful candidate will be equally comfortable working creatively and solving technical problems. They must be capable of working within both Autodesk Alias and VRED environments and understand how design data moves between them.
  • They do not need to arrive as an expert in every company system, but they must demonstrate curiosity, sound design judgment, technical confidence, and a willingness to learn.
  • This role requires someone who can create visually refined work while also handling the less visible technical work required to make that output possible. The candidate should be comfortable retrieving engineering data, preparing Alias and CAD data for visualization, maintaining VRED datasets, resolving interoperability issues, developing customer specifications, and contributing creatively when required.
Application Process

Applicants should submit:

  • A CV or resume outlining relevant experience.
  • A portfolio demonstrating visualization, rendering, automotive, transportation, product-design, CMF, or related work.
  • Examples demonstrating the use of Autodesk Alias and VRED, particularly workflows involving the transfer and preparation of Alias data for visualization.
  • Examples of vehicle specifications, liveries, material studies, technical visualization, or complex 3D data preparation where available.
  • A brief cover letter explaining their interest in the role, relevant technical experience, and familiarity with VRED, Alias, Teamcenter, or other required systems.
