Job description

With a company culture rooted in collaboration, expertise and innovation, we aim to promote progress and inspire our clients, employees, investors and communities to achieve their greatest potential. Our work is the catalyst that helps others achieve their goals. In short, We Enable Possibility.

JOB SUMMARY

The Vice President, Software Engineering (Domain Owner) provides leadership in aligning technology development with business objectives across assigned platforms and technologies. This role is responsible for setting direction and guiding software engineering managers, database specialists, developers, and contract teams.

The VP drives execution across multiple teams and agile phases to deliver against work plans, while establishing departmental priorities to ensure software development, maintenance, and innovation goals are met.

This role operates within a product-oriented IT (POIT) model, where the VP is expected to own underwriting platforms end-to-end as long-lived products, rather than leading discrete projects. The position requires full lifecycle accountability across underwriting workflows - including submission, pricing, validation, issuance, and ongoing enhancements - with responsibility extending beyond initial delivery into continuous platform evolution. The leader will be expected to balance greenfield development with modernization of existing Property systems, while partnering closely with underwriting, product, and operations to drive measurable business outcomes through technology.
This role offers flexibility with a preference for candidates who can work remotely (ideally within proximity to an Arch office in the Northeast), with hybrid arrangements in Raleigh or Jersey City strongly preferred.

  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to inform innovation and modernization efforts.
  • Participate in vendor and strategic partner evaluations and manage ongoing relationships.
  • Own and manage the department budget, including:
    • P&L forecasting

    • Contract negotiations
    • Invoice processing
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams through effective hiring, performance management, and employee development initiatives.
