Vice President, Accounting

The Davis H. Elliot Company, Inc. is seeking a Vice President, Accounting to provide executive leadership over the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information in accordance with GAAP while supporting the company's strategic and operational objectives. The ideal candidate is a proven accounting leader with strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to partner effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional teams.

Overview:

 

The Vice President, Accounting serves as a key member of the company's financial leadership team and oversees all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, and tax. This position leads month-end close processes, manages compliance and audit activities, strengthens internal controls, and drives continuous improvement across accounting systems and processes. In addition to technical leadership, the role plays a strategic advisory function supporting growth, scalability, and long-term sustainability.

A Day in the Life:

  • Provide executive leadership over all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll accounting, and financial reporting
  • Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and consistent financial reporting for executive and operational decision-making
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and oversee audit planning, execution, and resolution
  • Oversee accounting support for tax compliance and reporting in coordination with internal and external partners
  • Identify financial, operational, and compliance risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives across accounting operations
  • Partner with executive leadership to support strategic decision-making through accurate historical financial reporting and accounting insights
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting leadership and staff, including performance management and succession planning
  • Support accounting integration and process alignment for acquisitions or organizational changes
  • Prepare and present historical financial results, closerelated analyses, and material variances to executive leadership, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and GAAP compliance
  • Perform other executive accounting responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications & Skills:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification
  • 15 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including senior leadership roles and 3 or more years of public accounting experience; experience in construction is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Proven experience leading month-end and year-end close processes
  • Strong experience with audits, internal controls, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and strategic decision-making skills
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing accounting teams comprising of 10 or more professionals
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and financial reporting platforms: ERP implementation experience is a plus
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
