Overview

PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) VP Consumer Lending Product Strategy at our Tysons, Virginia; San Antonio, Texas or Irving, Texas location. The VP of Consumer Lending Product Strategy leads product strategy, market positioning, and the growth strategy/roadmap for PenFed’s closed-end consumer lending products and channels, including Auto Lending, Unsecured Personal Loans, and Student Loans. The role identifies market opportunities, defines product-market fit, and drives product-led growth from concept through scale. This leader is accountable for portfolio performance across pricing strategy, digital lending experiences, and portfolio analytics to ensure execution aligns with PenFed’s financial objectives, risk appetite, and member value goals.

The VP serves as the business owner for the Consumer Lending portfolio of products with full P&L accountability and responsibility for driving sustainable growth, profitability, and innovation across closed-end consumer loans. This individual leads a cross-functional organization spanning Product Strategy, Digital Product Management, and Pricing & Analytics, collaborating closely with Technology, Risk, Finance, Operations, and Marketing leadership to deliver cohesive, member-centric lending experience. The role is accountable for delivering measurable outcomes, including growth in originations and balances, improved conversion, optimized risk-adjusted returns, faster cycle times, increased digital adoption, and reduced cost-to-originate.

Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Oversight

  • Provide enterprise leadership for all closed-end Consumer Lending products and channels, including Auto Lending, Personal Loans, Student Loans, and emerging unsecured or secured offerings.
  • Own the full Consumer Lending P&L, ensuring balanced growth, profitability, and portfolio quality consistent with PenFed’s strategic plan.
  • Set and deliver performance targets across the closed-end consumer lending portfolio, including originations and balances growth, conversion improvement, risk-adjusted return optimization, cycle-time reduction, increased digital adoption, and lower cost-to-originate.
  • Develop and execute annual business plans, long-term strategic roadmaps, and capital allocation strategies in alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Represent Consumer Lending in executive forums and strategic initiatives, articulating performance, risks, and growth opportunities.
  • Ensure integration of consumer lending strategy with enterprise goals, digital transformation priorities, and member experience initiatives.
  • Drive the growth and development of ancillary products withing Consumer Lending P&L.

Product & Channel Strategy

  • Lead product vision, innovation, and lifecycle management across all lending products and distribution channels (Direct, Indirect, Partner Refinance, and emerging fintech partnerships).
  • Partner with Marketing and Finance to design and evaluate product and pricing strategies that maximize yield, optimize member value, and sustain competitive positioning.
  • Oversee the development of new lending products and features that address evolving member needs and market trends.
  • Ensure collaboration with Credit Risk, Decision Science, and Servicing to balance growth, credit performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive continuous portfolio optimization through disciplined data analysis and risk-adjusted return management.

Digital Experience & Transformation

  • Oversee the strategic roadmap for PenFed’s digital lending experiences across acquisition, origination, and servicing journeys.
  • Lead collaboration with Technology, Operations, and Digital Product Management to deliver modern, frictionless digital lending platforms that enhance member satisfaction and conversion.
  • Integrate digital analytics, Voice of Member feedback, and performance data into ongoing product and process improvement initiatives.

Pricing, Analytics & Insights

  • Provide executive oversight of pricing strategy and portfolio analytics across all Consumer Lending products.
  • Direct the development of pricing frameworks, optimization models, and data-driven insights that inform lending strategy and risk-return decisions.
  • Partner with Decision Science, Finance, and Risk to evaluate loan performance, pricing elasticity, and margin optimization.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of executive-ready reporting, dashboards, and business intelligence capabilities to support strategic decisions.

Enterprise Collaboration & Governance

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with Technology, Marketing, Risk, Finance, Compliance, and Servicing partners to ensure alignment and execution excellence.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for Consumer Lending within cross-functional governance forums, ensuring strategic initiatives adhere to regulatory, financial, and member-experience standards.
  • Collaborate with Treasury and Finance to manage balance-sheet strategy, liquidity planning, and funding cost optimization.
  • Represent the Consumer Lending division in enterprise digital transformation, innovation, and strategic planning initiatives.

Talent Leadership & Culture

  • Lead and develop a team of senior directors, directors, and managers across product strategy, digital product management, and pricing/analytics functions.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning that reflects PenFed’s mission and values.
  • Ensure organizational capacity, succession planning, and leadership development to support long-term strategic growth.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, or related field; master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in consumer lending, financial services, or product strategy, with proven success managing multiple lending portfolios.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large cross-functional teams and influencing enterprise-level strategy.
  • Proven track record of managing P&L, pricing, and portfolio analytics functions for both secured and unsecured lending products.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk management, digital product development, and financial performance optimization.
  • Executive-level communication, collaboration, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with data visualization, analytics, and CRM tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Salesforce Financial Services Cloud).
  • Experience driving digital transformation and technology integration within a lending or fintech organization strongly preferred.
