Overview

PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Sr Director, Consumer Digital Originations Platforms at our Tysons, Virginia location.  The primary purpose of this position is to lead the execution, delivery, and continuous improvement of digital origination and decisioning platforms across Consumer Banking. This role drives the development, configuration, and operation of platforms supporting consumer lending and deposit products, ensuring scalable, high-performing, and resilient systems. The position partners closely with Product, Risk, Operations, Technology, and external vendors to translate business requirements into effective platform capabilities, maintain high delivery quality, and enable efficient, data-driven decisioning across the end-to-end origination lifecycle.

  • Serve as a key point of contact with external vendors and IT for the origination platform configuration and development team, helping to develop, configure, and maintain origination and decisioning platforms supporting pre-approval, direct and indirect consumer loans, credit card, and deposit applications.
  • Develop and implement team structure and team development practices that emphasize resource retention, team skill development, and provides a scalable model for future growth.
  • Establish coding standards, tools, and processes for executing the development lifecycle efficiently and with high quality.
  • Ensure business requirements are translated into actionable development tasks and implemented accurately across managed platforms.
  • Develop and implement practices, in partnership with Business Requirements, Quality Assurance, and Change Management leaders, to reduce production defects and continuously improve release quality.
  • Establish monitoring and continuous improvement practices focused on increasing development throughput, increasing development to requirement alignment, and reducing defect injection.
  • Support Decision Management Executive in establishing and operating monitoring and feedback mechanisms across models, policy rule implementation, and origination platforms to support Consumer Banking profitability, growth goals, and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure timely delivery and quality of data from all origination platforms.
  • Support the change management process for origination platforms, including support for all documentation requirements, simulation and testing approaches, implementation planning, and post-production validation to support effective implementation with minimal business impact.
  • Develop and maintain operational risk controls for origination platform configuration and change activities to support first line responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with auditors and other internal or external oversight groups on origination platform reviews and support remediation activities as needed.
  • Direct departmental and enterprise risk and issue tracking processes by identifying, documenting, communicating, and escalating platform-related risks and issues as appropriate.
  • Direct vendor evaluation, contract review, and implementation planning for product vendors.
  • Direct ongoing schedule and vendor deliverables management.
  • Leads communication and adoption of origination platform capabilities across Product, Underwriting, Processing, Fraud, Compliance, Legal, Accounting, IT, and other key stakeholders to drive business outcomes, continuous process improvement, and transformative change.
  • Support established stakeholder communication plans across multiple stakeholder groups and organizational levels.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders at all PenFed geographical locations.
  • Helps safeguard PenFed’s computer and IT systems by monitoring staff adherence of all security policies and related training for individuals managed by this role. Take appropriate action working with IT security and HR when necessary to address any security breaches.
  • Support the Decision Management Executive with timely and professional updates, presentations, and thought leadership.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Master’s degree in economics, finance, statistics, technology, or related field required.
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of experience supporting and leading teams across loan origination and decision management platforms, with an understanding of credit policies, risk and marketing models, and consumer underwriting processes required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Team Leadership or Project Management is required specifically managing COTS products required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of direct management experience required.
  • Work in an agile environment is highly desired.
  • Experience using AI tools preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will supervise employees.

Pay Transparency 
The anticipated starting salary range for this role is $121,800.00 - $291,271.00
This position is eligible for an organizational performance based annual bonus, subject to board discretion and approval.
This position is eligible for an individual performance based annual bonus.
