Job description

Description:

Lead Multi-State Operations. Develop Exceptional Leaders. Shape the Future.

Great organizations don't grow by chance. They grow because someone builds the systems, coaches the leaders, and holds the standard.

Thompson Child & Family Focus is looking for that executive.

As Vice President of Operations, you'll lead across five states, develop the State Directors and Operations Directors who run them, and help set the long-term strategy for an organization that has been strengthening children, families, and communities since 1886.

If you're energized by building high-performing teams, driving operational excellence, and creating growth that lasts — we should talk.

Why Thompson

What began as a single orphanage in 1886 is now a regional leader serving children and families across North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Our continuum of care spans Prevention Services, Mental Health Services, and Foster Care — every program trauma-informed, evidence-based or evidence-informed, helping children and families build resilience through innovative, compassionate care.

Five values guide everything we do: Excellence • Innovation • Commitment • Caring • Integrity

What You'll Own

· Leadership of leaders — coach and develop State Directors and Operations Directors across multiple states

· Operational strategy and performance — set the standard and deliver against it

· Financial sustainability — strengthen resource allocation and long-term viability

· Executive talent development — build the leadership bench Thompson will need next

· Growth and expansion — partner on new markets and new service lines

· Consistency at scale — ensure operational excellence across every business unit

· Scalable systems — build the infrastructure that makes sustainable growth possible

You'll partner directly with executive leadership, with real authority to shape how Thompson operates and where it goes.

Requirements:

Who You Are

You're a servant leader who genuinely enjoys coaching executives and untangling complex organizational problems.

You've led large, geographically dispersed teams — and balanced mission, financial performance, operational quality, and people development without letting any one of them slip.

You're as effective presenting strategy in the boardroom as you are coaching a director in the field.

What You Bring

· Master's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Business Administration, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field

· 10+ years of progressively responsible leadership experience

· 7+ years leading leaders

· Experience overseeing multiple business units or geographic regions

· Strong financial, operational, and strategic planning skills

· Executive-level leadership experience (preferred)

· Willingness to travel regularly throughout Thompson's service areas

What You'll Get

Salary: $115,000–$135,000

· Three weeks PTO in your first year, plus ten paid holidays

· Comprehensive health benefits

· 401(k) with employer match

· Tuition reimbursement

· Leadership development opportunities

· Paid volunteer time

· Company-issued technology

Ready to Build at Scale?

This role reaches further than one program or one state. You'll influence organizational strategy, develop exceptional leaders, expand services across the Southeast, and help shape the future of one of the region's most respected child and family organizations.

Join a leadership team built on innovation, collaboration, and brighter futures for the children and families we serve. Apply at thompsoncff.org — where we are strengthening Children, Families, and Communities.
