Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for originating various commercial loans, including commercial real estate loans, commercial construction loans, commercial loan participations, and commercial loan purchases. Duties include collecting necessary documents and financial information from customers, collaborating with the Commercial Mortgage Loan Underwriting Associate and/or Commercial Underwriter to accurately underwrite and process loans for approval, and working with the Loan Processor to close approved loans. Additionally, the role involves administering and monitoring the construction loan disbursement process, managing, monitoring, and processing re-grades for assigned commercial real estate loans, and assisting in the collection and/or workout of assigned accounts. The position also focuses on developing and maintaining relationships with customers and major referral sources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum five years of experience in commercial real estate (CRE) lending or CRE underwriting large construction loans and large participations. Experience and knowledge in mortgage lending, including construction lending required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Real Estate, Banking and Financial Services, Risk Management, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Strong analytical ability and understanding of financial statements.
  • NMLS registered.
  • Experience in construction loan disbursement and the construction to permanent loan conversion processes.
  • Experience in underwriting or originating large more complex loans such as large construction development projects, large participation, etc.
  • Strong understanding of commercial real estate regulations, lending practices, and commercial loan operations and procedures. Proficient in word processing and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to make presentations to the Executive Loan Committee and meet deadlines within given timeframes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops, implements, and monitors a business development plan to achieve loan goals mutually established with management.
  • Maintains ongoing business development by contacting existing and new customers and referral sources through personal visits, phone calls, and correspondence. Demonstrates flexibility by scheduling meetings at times and locations convenient for customers. Collect the necessary information to properly underwrite and process the loan.
  • Underwrites application requests including more complex loans (large construction development projects, large participation) under Company guidelines. Assures the timely and accurate processing of mortgage loans through designated loan processors. Maintains constant communication with customers on the status of loan applications.
  • Negotiates term sheets, and other terms and conditions for loan requests.
  • Recommends approval of loan structure or rejection of loan application if applicable.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies throughout the loan process.
  • Manages and monitors the construction loan disbursement process, including the conversion of the construction loan to the permanent loan.
  • Obtains borrower financials and completes loan regrades in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the collection of delinquent accounts to achieve company goals and to assure repayment of mortgage loans.
  • Keeps abreast of activities and maintains contact with existing customers to identify problems immediately, retain customer and /or to recognize opportunities for additional business. Maintains a constant awareness of the real estate activities of the community including market values and trends of the real estate market including the competitors’ products and sales activities.
  • Actively participates in business and/or community organizations.
