Job description

Vice President, Finance

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the VP Finance will carry accountability for the Company’s administrative, financial, and IT systems functions. The person in this seat will operate hands-on, pairing technical depth with commercial judgment to interrogate the Company’s financial and operating metrics and translate them into guidance for the senior leadership team and the Board.

The VP Finance will lead the finance and accounting organization and scale it to keep pace with the Company’s expansion, working in close partnership with the COO and the private equity sponsor.

Growth at the Company will come from two directions — building the existing business and acquiring new ones — and the VP Finance will be central to both. On the organic side, they will sharpen visibility into costs by line of business and strengthen inventory management, giving the Company a better foundation for pricing its goods and services and sustaining profitable growth. On the inorganic side, they will participate in M&A activity through diligence and carry that involvement forward into post-close integration.

ResponsibilitiesFinancial Operations and Reporting
  • Direct day-to-day financial operations spanning invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, tax, and inventory valuation
  • Deliver financial results accurately and on schedule
    • Prepare and support monthly board calls and quarterly board meetings alongside senior leadership and the PE sponsor, covering financials and KPIs with supporting commentary
    • Run quarterly audit committee meetings, producing materials that cover finance initiatives and a detailed MD&A
  • Own the annual audit cycle and the relationship with the Company’s external auditors
  • Put and keep controls in place that protect the Company’s assets
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for lenders across legal, compliance, and reporting matters
  • Instill financial accountability and evidence-based decision making company-wide
Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Manage treasury and short-term liquidity, anchored by a rolling 13-week cash forecast
  • Own the financial planning agenda — both strategy and execution — including budgets, projections, and supporting analyses, with input from the PE sponsor
  • Work alongside senior management and the PE sponsor to apply analytical and financial rigor to strategic operating decisions
  • Build the systems, processes, and FP&A capability the business will need as it grows
Information Technology
  • See the migration from QuickBooks to NetSuite through to completion
  • Coordinate with the database management team to keep current and future IT solutions working together
Key Selection Criteria

Candidates will be evaluated against the following core competencies:

  • Track record: The ideal executive has already succeeded as a VP Finance within a standalone, high-growth company; private equity backing is a plus. They will have run the function with financial discipline and a clear bottom-line focus.
  • Sector exposure: Operating experience within a life-sciences products or services business is a plus.
  • Forecasting, FP&A, and financial control: The VP Finance will establish a control environment appropriate to a complex, expanding business, and will steadily improve how clearly, accurately, and deeply the Company plans and decides.
  • Corporate development and M&A: Hands-on involvement in sourcing, evaluating, executing, and integrating acquisitions is a plus.
  • IT and systems implementation: This role does not run IT, but it does require someone who can identify what creates value in the business and steer how supporting systems are implemented and used. Familiarity with Matrix Gemini or comparable inventory management tools, and with NetSuite or an equivalent ERP, is a plus.
  • ERP transition: Prior experience carrying an ERP migration through to completion would be a significant advantage.
  • Leadership and team building: The Company’s culture is entrepreneurial and driven. This role calls for an executive whose communication and leadership style earns them a role as mentor, advisor, and trusted confidant. Success also depends on navigating a relationship with the PE sponsor while working alongside a leadership team that chose to stay on as owners and partners rather than hired executives — for them, this is personal, not merely a job.
  • Horsepower and creativity: The executive will bring genuine intellectual firepower and the analytical ability to isolate levers and drivers, spot trends, and identify both pressure points and openings — then stay grounded enough to make those insights actionable across the business and grow enterprise value.
