Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice President of Education (VPE) provides strategic leadership for CSWE's educational mission, with broad responsibility for planning, development, and oversight of programs, services, and initiatives that support members in faculty development, academic leadership, curriculum advancement, educational research and scholarship, and teaching and learning. The VPE monitors and interprets trends in higher education, professional social work education, and related fields to identify information, resources, and opportunities that advance the Council's mission and support member needs.
The VPE works closely with CSWE leadership bodies and advisory groups to facilitate their work in service to the organization and contributes to organizational planning and priority setting. As needed, the position represents CSWE in relationship-building and collaboration with external organizations whose work aligns with and supports the mission and vision of the Council.
The VPE provides executive leadership and oversight for the Division of Education, which includes educational initiatives and research, innovation and learning, member engagement and professional development, grants and special projects, the Minority Fellowship Program, and the Diversity Center. The VPE oversees organizational leadership development initiatives, such as the Program Director Academy, and collaborates with external partners to support the development of educational resources related to professional well-being and effective team-based service delivery.
The VPE serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, working collaboratively with senior leaders responsible for communications and marketing, finance and operations, and accreditation to advance CSWE's strategic goals. The VPE ensures that educational initiatives and partnerships are implemented in alignment with organizational priorities, governance structures, and applicable regulatory and funding requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Professional Development: Align educational endeavors, professional development and programming with the needs of the current membership structure (e.g., faculty, students, staff, administrators). Plan, implement, and evaluate professional development programming with specific attention to quality teaching and learning, leadership development, and interprofessional education.
  • Educational/Instructional Resource Development: Elevate the social work knowledge economy and the organization's futures oriented and thought leadership endeavors. Identify resources and assets to advance membership abilities and capabilities to offer current, relevant, and quality social work education/instruction, and to build partnerships in delivering excellent educational programs and services. Ensure that educational/instructional resources are focused on strengths-based, equity and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Research and Funding Development: Advance the acquisition and creation of scholarly resources (e.g., literature, data) and funding (e.g., grantsmanship, contracts) to build membership capacity as learners, educators, scholars, and community champions.
  • Leadership Responsibilities: Serve as Vice President of the Division of Education demonstrating strategic, intentional, and equity minded leadership. As division leader, provide mentoring and coaching to education division staff; promote CSWE through publications and presentations as requested; provide communications including preparing reports for committees, CSWE Board and CSWE members as requested. Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Operational Management Responsibilities: Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of the divisional operating budgets; ensure alignment of budgets and programming as well as manage, monitor, and balance budgets; direct division efforts to continuously improve customer service and identify operational efficiencies; coordinate division staff evaluations and make recommendations that promote staff performance and growth; and contribute positively to the organizational culture and the work of the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
  • A doctorate in social work or related field is required.
  • A master's in social work is required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience in higher education, professional social work education and leadership.
  • An aptitude for innovation and creativity, and openness to change, transformation, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrated support for thought leadership; keeps current with anti-oppressive/anti-racist models of teaching, learning, and assessment of programmatic and student learning outcomes; employs fair practices and principles to accomplish the work.
  • Evidence of substantial writing and speaking skills including experience in conducting research and acquiring funding and resources.
  • Possess impeccable ethics and highest personal integrity in alignment with social work code of ethics and standards.
  • Evidence of experience in cultivating a culture of respect for differences and the positive impact of engaging diversities (e.g., intellectual, lived experience, background) in advancing professional spaces.
  • Evidence of increasingly responsible, substantive experience as a manager of people, processes, and budgets in a complex organization.
  • Ability to synthesize diverse information, data, and multiple points of view in decision making.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures, in order to make effective decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including conflict management and experience building quality teams.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and follow-through skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Possess technological competency including advanced functions in applicable software applications and have proficiency in MS Office and online accreditation management systems.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in building and maintaining relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to travel locally, nationally, and internationally, when needed.
  • CSWE Office is located in Alexandria, Virginia and in-person/in-office for this position is required.
