We're looking for our next Trainee Voyage Manager 

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to enter the maritime industry and gain experience in maritime commercial operations. You will learn the role of Voyage Management and commercial operations from the ground up starting with Teekay's business, the industry, our customers, and commercial shipping of oil. 

The Voyage Manager is responsible for the commercial management of a vessel-ensuring safe and efficient operations in order to deliver commercial success.

They act as a focal point, coordinating operations between the vessel crew, our customers, our suppliers, and multiple stakeholders within Teekay itself.

The role is dynamic and fast-paced. It would suit someone who is self-driven, organized, team orientated, and skilled in problem solving. A Voyage Manager usually has several years of shoreside experience or has previous experience working on ships. 

The successful candidate for this role will be learning all the relevant industry basic skills and knowledge for the role of the Voyage Manager, with a view to eventually being sufficiently knowledgeable and competent to be considered for future opportunities within the company. 

Some of the things you'll be doing  

  • Learning the fundamentals of the shipping industry
  • Developing familiarity with Teekay, and our company policies and procedures
  • Developing familiarity with industry specific software and applications
  • Developing a thorough understanding of the commercial shipping of oil
  • Visiting Teekay ships, and developing familiarity with their technical aspects
  • Attending industry events, meeting customers and suppliers
  • Attending and learning from internal and external meetings

  • A relevant university degree (eg Shipping, Transportation, Logistics, Business)
  • Clear written and spoken English
  • Comfortable working with numbers
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-national and diverse industry
