Job description

Overview
  • Volvo Circular Charlotte specializes in the remanufacturing of Volvo and Mack diesel engines, Volvo Construction Equipment transmissions, and other Volvo Group sub-components.
  • 1st Shift normal business hours are Monday through Friday 6 AM - 2:30 PM.
Purpose

Under the direction of the Volvo Operations Concept:

  • Support the Volvo/Mack remanufacturing factory with Maintenance solutions
  • Performs work according to SOP (Standard Operating Procedure)
  • Performs maintenance tasks
  • Performs Autonomous safety activities
  • Performs quick/standard kaizens

All employees are responsible for the quality of their work and customer satisfaction and are expected to engage in active continuous improvement.  Knowledge and understanding of workplace 5S and problem solving is required to prevent and correct situations that could reduce quality and customer satisfaction. 

Responsibilities
  • Performs reactive and preventive maintenance on machines and facility.
  • Records, report, and act on solutions for damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.
  • Manages spare part inventory.
  • Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines and fills out the appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare reports documenting work performed, including Kaizens.
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Coordinates with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines, utilizing the maintenance database system.
  • Collaborate with product manager or plant engineer regarding new product industrialization and modifications required to support production.
  • Making necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with product manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Mitigates potential safety hazards.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns, diagnostics, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, air distribution systems.
  • Contact liaison for all vendor related repair items at factory.
  • Support Volvo Performance System continuous improvement projects.
Required Skills and Abilities

  • Basic electrical knowledge.

  • Experience reading and understanding electrical blueprints, schematics, mechanical drawings.
  • General Fabrication.Ability to prioritize.
Education and Experience
  • Some vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience is required.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Physical Demands (to be met with or without accommodation)
  • Regularly required to reach with arms and hands.
  • Required to stand, walk and use hands to handle tools/controls.
  • Required to sit, climb, balance and crouch. Required to lift up to 50lbs.
Safety
  • Safety glasses required while grinding, steaming, using blow nozzles, or around others performing similar tasks.
  • Safety glasses in cleaning building and machine shop at all times.
  • Safety shoes always required.
  • Special attention to noise levels, hearing protection required in specific areas or operations.
  • Continuous elevated level of alertness.
  • Lock out tag out management and adherence.
