Family Pastor Opportunity At Walterboro First Baptist Church

Shepherd Staff is honored to be working with Walterboro First Baptist Church in Walterboro, SC as they search for their next Family Pastor. Founded in 1858, Walterboro First Baptist Church has a rich history of sharing the gospel in Colleton County and beyond, affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. The church has seen consistent growth, with average weekly attendance rising to approximately 200 in the past year, up from 159 the previous year. This growth includes an exciting influx of young families and children, alongside a strong base of older members who cherish the church's history and traditions.

The church's mission is to proclaim the Gospel and multiply disciples, with a vision focused on enjoying God's presence and fostering a community dedicated to His purposes. Its six-year strategic plan prioritizes prayer, discipleship, evangelism, fellowship, missions, and worship, aiming to become increasingly outward-focused while remaining firmly grounded in God's Word.

Position Overview

The Family Pastor is responsible for developing, cultivating, and implementing ministry programs for children, youth, and their families. This includes recruiting and training volunteers, teaching and discipling families, and overseeing engaging, Christ-centered programs for children and youth, with a primary focus on youth ministry. They will also oversee small group activities, plan special events like mission trips and Vacation Bible School, supervise the WEE preschool program, serve as the church's Child Protection Officer, and manage the annual budget for family ministry. Additionally, the Family Pastor will occasionally preach and collaborate with church staff and lay leaders on major projects.

  • Relational Discipler: Engages with and disciples children, youth, and parents across all life stages, fostering community. Teaches and mentors families in line with Baptist theology.
  • Principled and Courageous Leadership: Demonstrates consistency in upholding the church's mission and principles, even under pressure.
  • Leadership & Organizational Acumen: Capable of developing a comprehensive vision, leading programs for children, youth, and families, and empowering volunteers with strong planning and delegation skills.
  • Has Strong Pastoral and Shepherding Skills: Provides spiritual guidance, parenting support, and pastoral care for families experiencing challenges such as grief or transitions.
  • Highly Collaborative Team Player: Partners with the Lead Pastor, staff, and volunteers to align family ministry with the church's mission, while also engaging the local community through outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, cultivate, and implement ministry programs for children, youth, and their families.
  • Recruit, equip, and train a core base of volunteers to serve in family ministries.
  • Teach and disciple families in their spiritual growth.
  • Primary focus on leading the youth ministry, while supporting, giving guidance for the children's ministry.
  • Develop and oversee children's and youth programs that are engaging, Christ-centered, and memorable.
  • Plan and lead special events such as mission trips, Vacation Bible School, and family-focused outreach opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor, church staff, and lay leaders on major projects and events.
