Job description

Position Summary:
The Student Worship Associate is responsible for leading and overseeing worship ministry within The Avenue's Student Ministry. This role will provide consistent, Christ-centered worship leadership for student services while helping create an environment where students can Know Jesus, Grow in their relationship with Jesus and others, and Serve others inside and outside of the church.
The Student Worship Associate will lead worship for student ministry gatherings, recruit and develop student and adult worship team members, coordinate weekly worship preparation, and serve as a worship leader during select Sunday services at The Avenue.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Lead worship for weekly student ministry services and gatherings.
  • Prepare and organize worship sets that align with the vision, teaching, and theme of each student service.
  • Coordinate songs, arrangements, transitions, and service elements related to worship.
  • Lead rehearsals and ensure the worship team is adequately prepared for each service.
  • Work closely with Student Ministry leadership to ensure worship supports the overall ministry environment and goals.
  • Help create a worship environment that is engaging, theologically sound, age-appropriate, and focused on helping students encounter and respond to Jesus.
  • Identify and encourage students with musical and leadership gifts.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and encouragement to worship team members.
  • Help develop students who are interested in growing as musicians, vocalists, and worship leaders.
  • Foster a healthy team culture marked by humility, excellence, spiritual maturity, and servant leadership.
  • Lead worship during 1-2 Sunday services per month, as scheduled.
  • Serve as part of the broader worship team and support the Sunday worship experience as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Service Programmer and other worship/creative team members to prepare for assigned Sunday services.
  • Maintain weekly communication with the Service Programmer and Student Ministry leadership.
  • Use Planning Center and other church systems as required for scheduling, service planning, and team communication.
  • Stay organized and prepared to meet weekly ministry responsibilities within the assigned 10-15 hours.

Oversight:
  • Student Worship Volunteer teams

Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated personal faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to Christian ministry.
  • Experience leading worship in a church, student ministry, or similar ministry setting.
  • Strong vocal and/or instrumental ability.
  • Ability to lead a worship team with confidence, humility, and organization.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, volunteers, and church staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prepare independently and meet weekly deadlines.
  • Commitment to theological and musical excellence appropriate to The Avenue's ministry context.
  • Experience leading worship specifically within a student ministry.
  • Experience developing and mentoring student musicians and worship leaders.
  • Familiarity with Planning Center.
  • Experience working within a multi-site church environment.

Spiritual Requirements:
  • Regular involvement in The Avenue Church activities and events.
  • Signed acknowledgement of The Avenue Church's "Statement of Faith" and "Staff Lifestyle Agreement" forms.
  • Signed acknowledgment of policies and procedures as stated in The Avenue Church's employee handbook.
  • Living out the spiritual principles outlined in the "Staff Lifestyle Agreement"; participation in a small group; tithing consistently; attending worship services; involvement in outreach; following Christ personally and passionately; and sexual purity.
