Job Summary
FULL TIME MUSIC TEACHER
Responsibility:
Under the direction of the site principal, plans, implements, and evaluates instructional activities to develop students' skill and appreciation in music (voice and instrumentation).
Essential Functions:
1. Prepares appropriate lesson plans and objectives based upon California State Standards, district curriculum, and grade level.
2. Presents materials and concepts in a logical and clear manner; encourages and stimulates student interest in music.
3. Develops and maintains standards of behavior appropriate for class and conducive to learning; is consistent in maintaining standards.
4. Provides a learning environment that allows for individual differences and respect for the dignity and worth of each student.
5. Coordinates student music program with classroom teachers and other school personnel.
6. Plans programs for the purpose of student musical performances.
7. Speaks and spells properly, using language appropriate to students' level of learning; writes legibly and utilizes correct grammar in speaking and writing.
8. Works cooperatively with school staff and students to promote effective student learning experiences; projects a positive self-image.
9. Possesses knowledge of curriculum areas appropriate for students being taught.
10. Possesses knowledge of district and school policies, regulations, goals and objectives; adheres to same.
11. Communicates professionally with parents regarding educational and social progress of student; interprets school program to parents and students.
12. Prepares required student forms and maintains accurate student academic records, attendance records, and cumulative student progress and achievement records and reports.

3. Attends required meetings called by administrators or grade level or department chairs.
4. Plans and coordinates the work of teacher aides, assistants, and parent volunteers.
5. Maintains functional learning environment, including orderliness and care of musical equipment and materials assigned to classroom; instructs students in proper use and preservation of school property and maintains records which establish student accountability for assigned school property.
6. Actively participates in extra-curricular activities and supervises extra-curricular activities as assigned by administration.
7. Performs other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
Qualifications:
1. Skills to motivate students in one or more areas of music and to communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
2. Knowledge of curriculum, education code, musical instruction and instrumentation.
3. Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school personnel.
4. Ability to perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, and meet schedule deadlines.
Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor's Degree with valid California Teaching Credential authorizing service in assigned grade and subject.
2. Teaching experience in grade level(s) and subject area.
Physical Requirements:
1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking.
2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical work and require light physical effort.
3. Lifting 25 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing over 15 lbs.
