This vacancy is for a Supervisory Business and Industry Specialist in the Bureau of Industry and Security within the Department of Commerce.

Help
As a Supervisory Business and Industry Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
- Directs, plans, organizes, and manages the activities of the Division, ensuring the effective execution of programs, projects, studies, and initiatives related to export administration, strategic trade controls, data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and national security policy.
- Plans, directs, and conducts highly complex qualitative and quantitative studies involving export controls, export licensing, strategic trade policy, national security controls, supply chain vulnerabilities, foreign adversary dependencies, and economic security concerns.
- Develops and coordinates data-driven analyses and policy products that support the evaluation of export regulations, licensing decisions, policy alternatives, compliance activities, and interagency initiatives.
- Provides leadership and expert policy advice to senior Department of Commerce and Bureau of Industry and Security officials regarding the formulation, implementation, and execution of national security related export control policies. Represents Bureau of Industry and Security in high-level internal Departmental and interagency engagements involving organizations.

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-15 level you must meet one of the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
- Leading the development or advising on programs, policies, or analytical work related to business, industry, trade, and/or critical technologies; and
- Developing national security, economic, or trade analysis using descriptive analytic work products (e.g. dashboards, data visualizations, etc.) and predictive analytic work products (e.g. forecasting or probability models, risk or compliance scores, etc.) to inform organizational decision-making; and
- Presenting briefings or analytical findings to senior leadership and/or external stakeholders.
